Which schools are 2019 NMF planning to attend? Or which schools are we leaning toward?
My son opted for a school that doesn’t directly sponsor a NMF scholarship but did offer an additional 2,500 per year for his accomplishment. This is on top of generous academic and forensics scholarships. I know it’s a drop in the bucket compared to what is offered some places but Patrick Henry College is a good fit for him and his goals so we’re sucking it up! ???
UCF for my daughter…decision based on FREE undergrad, Burnett Honors College and Burnett Medical Scholars…oh and palm trees and Disney for her visits from Mom!
We have been accepted to and are visiting Texas Tech, Alabama, UCF & USF. Applied and visited UTD (wonderful, btw) and DD wants to visit New College of Florida when we are out there next week.
I am so glad she accomplished what she set out to do. To get admittance to honors and finish UG debt free?? Love it!
Texas A&M as a Brown Scholar/NMF for my daughter!
Son has accepted admission to the University of Texas at Dallas
@tabbychiro Congratulations ! He will love it there !
Congratulations @tabbychiro !!
DD had specified USC as first choice but now wants to accept UTD admission. Is it too late to make change on first choice and miss out UTD generous offer? Thanks in advance!
@pcazcp Assuming UTD doesn’t have an earlier date, I think NM still has at least one more release date for their scholarship list. I’d have your D change the first choice in her NM portal immediately, then call UTD and find out what else she needs to do.
Thank you @Phlipper and @momcatof4 !
@pcazcp I believe UTD deadline is before 4/30
@Reebtoor and @tabbychiro thank you! Can confirm the date to be 4/30 from - https://honors.utdallas.edu/nmsp/application-process
My daughter is headed to Oklahoma State University in the fall. Super generous national merit offer and one of the few universities that offer her major – entomology!
@pcazcp MAC’s next list release is May 2nd (and their April one has already passed), so I think you still need to call UTD and see if that will work (vs 4/30 deadline).
@Rebooter - Thanks for the suggestion! I just spoke with the very helpful UTD Admissions office and they confirmed they will receive one more list in early May
My son is headed to UF. Business school tour was great and Benacquisto is an amazing deal.
Our NMF D is heading to The University of Oklahoma. Even though OU’s scholarship package has decreased over the years and its total is less than some other places, overall fit and location were big factors in her choice. Plus, our D16 is there on the NMF package and her experience has been amazing. Good luck to all! I have enjoyed going through this process will all of you, my virtual friends.
@WImom94 can you tell us why your daughter’s experience there has been amazing? Any details are much appreciated. I am looking at honors colleges/NMF packages (hoping my son junior qualifies–history says he should). We live in upstate NY and I have to say OU was never on my radar until I started this research. Thanks for any thoughts, including why it is a good fit for second daughter, etc.
Hi @rileygrl! OU was definitely NOT on our radar either! Not because we ruled it out for any reason, we just had never even considered it as an option. When we started getting the info about their NMF package we were curious and added it to a college visit tour. For both of our Ds, they love the beautiful campus, the school spirit and the layout of the campus. Despite being a larger university, OU’s campus buildings are clearly part of a cohesive campus. Our own state’s flagship is more spread out, mixed with non-university buildings, businesses, stores, etc. Our older daughter has enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the Honors College and the unique 3 week summer study abroad program at Oxford University. The Honors College classes allow for a small school feel while still being part of a major university and all of the opportunities that provides. Our D has found her professors to be very, very good teachers which is important to her. Also, the communication from OU all along has been outstanding and easy to follow. One thing that I noticed when we first toured and has been reinforced every time we have been to campus, is that there is a genuine kindness among the professors, staff and students that I had not experienced to such a level elsewhere. As a mom, this was important to me. Our Ds are hard workers and are strong academically, they would likely do “fine” anywhere. I appreciate that I know that OU prides itself on relationships and knowing their students - especially since they are 13 hours away! If you have the opportunity to take a visit, I think you will see what I mean. (If your son does become a NMSF/NMF OU will pay for a night in a hotel if you visit.) Best of luck to your son. What an exciting year you have ahead! Please reach out if you have any more questions.
My son FINALLY decided! He picked Alabama. He was selected for both the Randall Research Scholars Program and the Blount Scholars program, and between being able to do both programs and the generous NMF scholarship it jumped to the top of his list. He also likes that there are so many OOS students on campus. The generous policy on AP credit will also give him flexibility to squeeze in classes “just for the fun of it”
Roll Tide!
