Which schools are best for undergrad philosophy?

I wasn’t looking at anything especially small… 5000+. I wanted something in a major city. I will check out some liberal arts schools, but I like the whole idea of a work hard, play hard atmosphere, lots of stuff to do, lots of people around, and easy transportation. I don’t want to feel like I’m in high school again. I live on the east coast, so I certainly won’t be looking in CA unless I get in at a school there that I have a high level of interest in.

Definitely check out the University of Michigan. The faculty is sizeable and certainly among the very best on Earth and the number of students majoring in Philosophy is small. By small, I mean 150 (35-45 per graduating class) Philosophy majors on campus at any point in time with a faculty of 25 professors.

As a rule, regardless of how large a university, the philosophy department will seldom be large and classes will typically be taught by faculty and have between 10 and 30 students.
