S received unsolicited:
NYU -- $7500/year
GWU -- $75,000/4 years (1/2 tuition)

Anyone willing to share the stats that earned these awards?

My S got $10K annually at Univ of MI plus a $1.5M signing bonus for the first year. Strictly merit. We got a separate need based award, but never figured out whether that was in addition to or would be eliminated by the merit award. (He's not going. He's Pomona bound)
In-state, 4.0 UWGPA,35 ACT

I received a $9,500 Presidential Scholarship from Lawrence University. I will be turning it down for the University of Chicago, though.

My S got $ 6,700 annually from Indiana University. He was accepted directly into the Business program and was also accepted into Honors.

Relatively speaking, that amounts to about 25% of the costs.

This was his safety school. He attends the University of Chicago.

Some random school.... north carolina central i think... actually came to my school and offered me full-tuition, room and board, a laptop and stipend without me even applying to the school. Plus, the guy went on about having a partnership with Duke that would allow me to take some of my science courses at Duke.... I never really considered the offer but it was nice of them.

Students who are National Merit semi-finalists get all kinds of offers of full-rides, plus computers and other things. Florida Central is one that comes to mind.

Marietta College offered 19K per year unsolicited for a 3.7 w gpa/ 1320 SAT/ 29 ACT. It made it less expensive than the the state school. Bowling Green has automatic guaranteed merit aid for specific gpa/std test score combos. Also, a friend said her D got a full ride at U Toledo with a 3.7 gpa. Lots of schools automatically offer good merit money for good students, but as someone noted earlier, they are often schools a tier or so lower than the best schools your S/D could attend.

Yea, im national merit commended and a national achievement winner. Once i got notification of my status as NM commended/NA semi-finalist the college mail jumped up another level. I was already getting about 5-10 things a day so it jumped to like 10-20 a day... it actually got very annoying
