<p>GPA UW Academic: 3.91(took the hardest courseload in my grade. Took 5 APs in school + 1 self study) the val only took 2 core AP's.
Cumulative: 3.9
ACT: 32 Will retake for 34+ (let's assume that i get a 35)
Rank: sal. So top 1%/ 354 kids
AP's (not sure if this is required)
5 in bio, 5 in calc, 5 in psych (self-study), and 5 in stats, and 4 in physics B
Taken Math IIC subject test: 800
Bio M: i took and cancelled the score only to find out that i would have gotten a 770. So will retake for 770+
IDK if this helps (or hurts) but i go to a high school ranked 165ish out of 379 high schools in NJ. So it's a terrible high school.</p>
<p>EC's: did research project over Rutgers. Published 3 times on national website. One time was my findings only on microbiology and the other two times were co-authored with another publisher
started/president of Debate club
Capt. of Academic team (active for 4 years)
mentor of the research club at school
Taking university level courses in psychology at Rutgers (abnormal psychology and personality psychology)
Trying to find research assistant positions at the moment. Applied to one. Won't get the results back until mid august. I applied to 10-11 more. I've been rejected to 5 of them already because of no availability for me.
Im not sure if you want to know my volunteering experience. So ill leave it out. But in general i have about 200 hours.
Im also in the moment of starting a fundraiser for the American Cancer society. IDK how that will turn out but the fundraiser will last for a week about 5hours each day. If all goes well, I'll have roughly 235 hours.</p>
<p>What are some top-notch direct medical programs i could get in to? Also i have a few questions:
1) I want to be a neurologist. So i would apply for direct med program right? or do i apply to schools with strong nuerology programs? Im so confused about how direct med program works
2) If i do direct med program at a university, what would my next steps be to become a brain surgeon?</p>
<p>Please helpp. Im so lost. My parents are forcing me to get into Direct med program and idk even how the process works!</p>
<p>bump helllllllppppp!!!</p>
<p>I think JHU has the best neuroscince program, especially if you wish to pursue a medical field.
Other than that UCSD and many others are good.</p>
<p>^do you think im qualified? I have no idea of the competition.</p>
<p>assuming you get act up to 35, you have a chance.</p>
<p>search on cc, there are many threads on this subject.</p>
<p>Yea im not a good searcher.
But can you also answer my other questions?</p>
<ol>
<li>Do YOU want to be a doctor?</li>
<li>Neurologist and brain surgeon are two different specialties.</li>
<li>Nothing you do in undergrad will influence your future medical specialty. </li>
<li>It’s too early to be thinking about medical specialties.</li>
</ol>
<p>1) I want to be a brain surgeon
2) i didn’t know that. I thought you had to have strong nuerology background to become a brain surgeon. Can you describe the difference? Never mind. I know the difference. What i meant was that i want to be a NEUROSURGEON.
3) That’s why im thinking of Bs/MD programs or direct medical programs. won’t that help me to become a brain surgeon. I feel like a noob.
4) why is too early? Im a rising senior in high school who’s determined to be a brain surgeon. I know what i want.</p>
<p>i’ve heard that places like university of pittsburgh, NYU, and some LAC’s have good programs. but i think you could be in contention for some ivies like columbia. they have a good program too.
check out this link for combined BA/MD medical programs:

<p>they’re all very highly competitive</p>
<p>Thanks for the reply but no one replied to my other questions: </p>

<p>The University Of Pittsburgh has one of the best medical schools in the country. But here are their direct medical school requirements: (which I don’t know if you meet, Regardless though, Pitt has one of the best neuroscience undergrad majors out there)</p>
<p>School of Medicine Guarantee
Indicate Pre-Medicine or Bioengineering on admissions application. Your completed application and supporting credentials must be received on or before December 15.
To compete for the medical school guarantee, applicants must meet the initial eligibility requirements of earning the highest grade point average available in their high school in the context of a curriculum showing the greatest academic rigor possible and earning a minimum SAT I score of 1450 (combined Critical Reading and Math) or 33 ACT.
Students meeting these criteria will be asked by the School of Medicine to submit additional information in support of their candidacy. Students selected on the basis of their submissions will subsequently be invited for an interview in the School of Medicine.
The choice of final candidates is contingent upon this interview in combination with other factors. Historically, an average of 8-13 students from the entering undergraduate class are chosen each year for the School of Medicine guarantee.
Students offered the guarantee must complete an undergraduate degree at Pitt within four years, complete the prerequisite course work, maintain a cumulative science and quality point average of at least 3.75, and engage in undergraduate research and extracurricular activities that provide greater knowledge of the science and practice of medicine.
Students who are awarded the guarantee and meet all academic and gpa requirements are not required to take the MCAT.
For information about admission to the School of Medicine go to [Admissions</a> & Financial Aid | University of Pittsburgh](<a href=“http://www.medadmissions.pitt.edu%5DAdmissions”>http://www.medadmissions.pitt.edu).</p>
<p>Instead of beating the bushes, if Direct Medical Schools is in your mind, you should apply to all the programs avaliable below, cause the road to glory is very bumpy.</p>

<p>University of Rochester has a pretty solid neuroscience program. The medical center next door has a large neuro lab and it’s recently gotten a lot of funding for some really interesting work. UR has a REMS program that guarantees a spot into med school. but honestly there’s no way you can go straight to brain surgeon out of high school. The research opportunities while you study there are the closest you can get to early “hands-on” while you study.
Even the neuroscience lab at this research oriented school is limited to only seniors with the declared majors, just so you get a sense of what I’m trying to tell you.
It’s good to be focused and have a goal early on, but keep other options open.</p>
<p>This is a six month old thread. I don’t know where Fresh 101 went, but with the sort of pressure he/she described from the parents… made ave. of 2 posts per day for two years, then … disappeared after this thread.</p>
