I scored a 2200 on my SAT (770 Math, 740 Reading, 690 Writing, 8 Essay) and 34 on my ACT (36 Reading, 33 Math, 36 English, 32 Science, and 8 Essay). Which score should I send in? I plan on applying to the Universities of Michigan, Texas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Indiana, and New York, as well as Notre Dame. Is the fact that I scored only an 8 on the essay a big deal?

If push comes to shove maybe the ACT but why not send them both? The scores are great and show similar results between the two tests. The high math SAT looks excellent as does the 36 on reading and English! I don’t think the 8 on the essays will be a problem. Also, if you just submit the SAT do you also need to submit subject tests? And if so are they solid? If not the ACT is the way to go since you usually don’t need subject tests. But honesty they are both great scores so maybe you should submit them both.

If your major is related to English, I’d send the ACT scores because of your excellent Reading and English scores. However if your major is Science related, I’d send the SAT scores because your Math score is the highest. Sending both is best though in my opinion. The 8 doesn’t really matter because your Writing score in general is pretty good.
