I’m currently in 11th . I feel like a resume should cover all aspects . I dont play any sports. Though i’m thinking of joining rugby in school as Rugby is a new sport in our country which might get me a national certificate cause of less competion . Or i can practice Karate and earn a black belt. But i’m confused about which will be valued more. PLEASE HELP
Don’t feel obligated to play a sport! Plenty of people don’t have that on their resume. If you really want to play, play whichever sport you’re happiest in. Don’t worry about prestige.
Playing a sport isn’t necessary if your resume/EC’s are impressive in other aspects. Playing a sport won’t increase your chances of getting into college unless you are a recruited athlete. Playing rugby or karate might make you more unique compared to other students who play varsity lacrosse, football, soccer, etc. but it won’t really boost your chances
- Becoming a black belt in Karate takes years of training.
- If you're going to play rugby, then you should be a fairly large person to start off. It not a sport where the small of stature "survive."
Thank you so much @newkidnewtrix @Dontskipthemoose . Maybe it wont make a difference on my resume but I can still play to keep myself fit and stay healthy. Thank you for your advice. Appreciate it
@sushiritto haha just got a bit too optimistic . Thank you though
The one you enjoy more. For anyone who is not a recruited athlete, which sport, if any, one chooses does not matter.
I guarantee you that rugby is not new in your country. Increasing in popularity in recent decades - perhaps - but not new.
I played rugby for 5 years but had to quit due to health issues (not related to sport). I don’t think there’s a better sport out there. I’ve learned so much from my experiences playing that go beyond athletic abilities. If you have any questions about the sport let me know. Size matters, but there are so many body types, don’t count yourself out if you’re not big. There’s a variety of positions that could fit you.
You don’t need to play a sport, but if you’re passionate about it, whether it’s rugby or karate, then go for it
There have been many short (and very, very good) hookers. Scrum half and fly half also do not require large size, and even flanker can be a possibility. That’s about as far as I would go. D was a 5’2" hooker [yes, they used to have fun with that line at CVS], and, even though that was women’s rugby, some of those women were beasts. I mean that as an ultimate compliment to their size, strength, and speed.
