Some of the schools arnt SUNY i know but any1 have any ideas i can get into any of those or any other good options i am really looking to go int oa Medical field like Dentistry or Pediatrics but i am also looking at Law and possible political sicence

I am also from longisland and am applying for collegess…
i think that…
bing…no and maybe on syracuse and SB, I think you’ll get into one of them, and possibly both with a 1200. the rest you should get into

Ya im really pushing for the 1200 gotta work hard im really starting to crack on the books now December is prob gonnaa be my final chance to make it in that bad boy just stony is a commutable school i personally wanna live on campus and i really love all the schools im applying to syracuse is prob my favorite campus but its kinda far and expensive but personally Stony and Cortland ilike alot you like any school thats i have or may didnt add that are SUNYs?

What is your weighted gpa and/or Regents average? What were your AP scores? Even if you raise your SAT scores, I think the gpa is going to be a problem unless you just had a bad freshman year. Are you eligible for EOP/HEOP?

Weighted its like an 84 its like same thing my freshman year i screwed up big time i had like a 70 GPA and I have a all 2s on the APs and im getting and Adavanced regents diploma and the average is around a 80 something im not sure cuz my lowest was and 80 but highest was a 96 so idk honestly and whats EOP/HEOP?

Your GPA is, unfortunately, a problem. Everything else looks good for Oneonta but your GPA. Even weighted is well below the average. But you should still apply.

Ya i have Oneonta as a safety through all admissions directors i talked too my sat is above theres so it helps the low GPA most schools ive talked to on my list say im somehwta safe except for Bing which is my high reach Stony which is my mid reach but i really want adn Syracuse was a mid-high reach im hoping my studying gets me the 1200 for stony

Sorry, but your SAT is actually below last years Oneonta average. The 2010 class average was 91.1 GPA and 1134 SAT. I’m not sure Oneonta should be considered a safety considering your stats are below their average.

Re: SUNY’s on your list. Cortland and Oswego can be considered safeties.
---------------Binghamton===very high reach.
---------------Oneonta-----reach
---------------Stony Brook—reach
---------------New Paltz–match

Change to the above post. New Paltz is low reach due to your SAT CR score. It’s near their 25th percentile of accepted students.

Binghamton—very high reach. Basically a “no chance”
Oneonta and SB----reach
New Paltz–slight reach
Oswego and Cortland----safety

Your EC’s don’t make up for GPA and SAT/ACT scores. State schools are pretty numbers driven. This means, they focus on your GPA, SAT/ACT scores, and rigor of your curriculum.

nysmile, you seem to be implying that Oneonta is more difficult to get into than New Paltz? I’d thought NP was much more well known and selective than Oneonta? I’ve read several places that it is “in” these days. The data you cite is a year older for NP, and I think it likely that it’s acceptance standards have increased.

NP–For freshmen accepted to the fall of 2010 class, the mean SAT is 1190 (CR & M).
NP–For freshmen accepted to the fall of 2010 class, the mean high school average is 92.0.

Compare this to the Oneonta freshman profile:

Oneonta–High school average: 91.1
Oneonta–Average SAT score: 1134 (Critical Reading/Verbal and Math portions only)

New Paltz and Oneonta are pretty equal when it comes to the stats needed to gain admittance. I assumed the OP is a male (screen name starts with-Allen). If so, the OP probably has a better shot at New Paltz where females outnumber males by quite a bit. It’s still a reach. If the OP is female, New Paltz will be tougher than Oneonta.

The OP’s lower GPA makes both of these schools a bit reachy. The OP has only taken 2 AP classes—AP Gov and AP Environmental Science (neither are considered difficult relative to the core AP’s). Both Oneonta and New Paltz should be categorized as reaches.

I agree with mhc and hudsonvalley, NP is definitely a tougher admit than Oneonta. I would say both are a reach, primarily due to GPA. Have you looked at Brockport or Fredonia?

Noticed you are the varsity swim team captain. Is this something you are interested in pursuing in college and how competetive are your times? The swim coach at these colleges could be helpful in getting you admitted if they really want you and admissions is on the fence about your application.

Thanks for input guys i just second sat and im feeling a 700 on math and around 550 on CR wil that up chances minimum im getting on math is a 650 for sure with 550 cr so thats a 1200
