Hi, I'm Brazilian and I want to go to college in the US. I'm starting the high school this year and our educational system here is pretty different, so I'm trying to understand the American admission process. I want in what universities I have more chances to get in because I don't know too much about the process. Here are my info: my grades are around 92%, I didn't take the SAT yet, but I did the practice test on the collegeboard website during the summer and got 1590, so I should probably get a better grade on the real test since I didn't study for this one. The biggest problem is the extracurriculars, I've read on a lot of websites that they're very important, but I don't understand exactly what would count as an extracurricular. Do studying languages count? (In my case Spanish and French). What about playing an instrument? (I'm interested in learning the keyboard, but still haven't started). I also helped direct a school play last year, and plan to do the same on the next, that should count, right? I will also run for class leader, I believe that should help. And, finally, I'm planning to go to L.A. in 2016 to study English, do that count as an extracurricular? Thank you all for helping me, and if you have any tips that could increase my chances, please tell me.

Directing a school play definitely is permissible… but your best bet is test-optional colleges.
