Which university is better for undergraduate engineering and good for international students.

I want to take up computer science or computer engineering. I am confused between colleges like Purdue, University of Virginia, university if maryland and Illinois institute of technology.I have to chose to apply to only 2 of them. There is a reason behind that but irrespective of the reason, please tell me which two of the above mentioned schools are better for engineering and offer good job placements, plus will provide a good student body.

Are you meaning for undergraduate studies? No one can tell the job placement in you home country. Non us have difficulty with jobs here without a MS degree from the little I know, the work visas are limited. You are subject first to OPT/CPT.

What is confusing exactly about these colleges? The first 3 You mention are similar in that they are all large state colleges with students taking a wide varieties of majors. IIT is a bit different in that it is a private tech school and focus is on STEM majors. Aside from that there is a difference in location. It think IIT has more international students and is in an urban setting. uVA is hardest to get an admit and has the strongest students overall academically. But all should have strong engineering students. UMD and Purdue both have strong engineering especially, look closer at those.

Would the two be two reaches, one match and one reach, one match and one safety? What are your stats?

All are my safety schools… I am applying to conrell, Princeton, northwestern, rice and two if the above mentioned… I don’t really care about the location, what I care is it should be a good university that offers good exposure to engineering. As far as I know, Purdue and UMaryland are better than IIT… But I am confused About UVirginia… Is it good for engineering?

You’d have to be pretty strong to get in to UVa.

And you can afford all of them?

Illinois Tech does have a lot of international students but mostly for graduate degrees. The undergraduates are predominantly domestic. It is hard to quantify “better than”. Any ABET accredited engineering program will give you a good education if you take seriously. The most important thing is outcomes and in that I would say that any of the schools you list provide good job placement in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.

The most important aspect for your question is which of those schools are real “safeties”. That is, which ones will be affordable and likely to admit you. Unfortunately, without knowing your stats, it is impossible to make any determination.

Lol, just another out of touch student with top schools as safeties

UVA and UMD-CP for CS can’t be considered safeties. Regardless of your stats, their selectivity is such that you can’t count on getting in - that’s what a safety is: a school you’re sure you will get into, like, and can afford.

Purdue and IIT are two very different universities. Both are tech-oriented, but one is in a college town and one is in a huge city, one is very large and one is very small, one is fairly easy to access but may restrict your access to the major whereas the other is more supportive…

Also, what’s your parents’ budget? Have you run the NPCs on these universities?

My parents can just afford to pay anything less than $5000 an year. Thats all…@mom2collegekids
do you have any options that provide 100% need atleast to a few international undergrads.

None of these schools are safeties. At least three don’t give need based aid to int’ls. None give a lot of aid to int’ls.

When you need a lot of aid, there are no safeties for int’ls.

Okay. I’ll put my stats. I’ll add another thread about my stats and chances of getting in.
I’ll add it as ‘Chances to get into Cornell’. Cornell is my first choice school. And since it offers a good financial aid I am applying ED to Cornell.
So please follow my next thread. I’d like to get your views.
Thank you

This is the link to the new thread… Please take a look

OP, there are NO colleges that are “safeties” for International students who NEED aid.
There are very few colleges that offer International students any aid, and they are flooded with applicants like yourself.
The competition is fierce for those spots.
Most International students that are admitted to US colleges are full pay.
