White Girl From CT low GPA; College Chances?

Boston? Commuting with that traffic at rush hour?

Make sure that isn’t some per credit cost.

Re: UMass Boston - their Philosophy and Public Policy major (which sounds like a possible match for your interests) qualifies for tuition reciprocity for CT students. Would that improve the financial picture even more?

Also, re: your interest in pre-dental, keep an eye on Bill S.1169 in Massachusetts, which would approve a new level of licensure in MA for Dental Therapists - more or less the dental equivalent of Physician Assistants - to address the shortage of dental practitioners in the state. If this passes, there will be masters-level programs launching in MA in the next few years, as they already have in Minnesota. This might be a path to consider if you’re interested in the dental field.

It was UMass Amherst not Amherst the LAC. And commuting because my parents are considering moving to boston if I get in there (since brother is close by). Yes thank you @aquapt

No merit from Syracuse.

UMaine Orono offers tuition close to in-state prices to people from many states in the northeast (including CT). It’s likely that you would receive merit aid based on your credentials. This could potentially result in a very low price…especially if you’re a working student.

Just an idea, may or may not be worth exploring further.

I can’t open current actual cost pages on the site. Assuming Igot to the right place, last year, the nebhe rsp cost at UMass Boston was almost 26k. Instate was 13k. But you’d need to see what it takes to qualify as an instate in MA. Just living there next fall isn’t it.

They qualified me for the Chancellor’s scholarship.

Do you currently live close enough to commute to UMass Boston? If not…where do you plan to live?

^ posted up that my parents are considering relocating to boston

Are you eligible for the automatic full tuition at Alabama? If so, I’d take that and never look back.

Harvard is so incredibly generous. I can’t understand why your parents took your small college fund to pay it. I get that they supposedly don’t have it, but have a hard time believing that Harvard would leave them with an EFC that your brother couldn’t pay for with his own loan plus working, plus some contribution from their current income. I think they are bluffing so that you reach for top schools.

I think so

I’ve applied to a bunch of schools now.

Are you looking at UMass Lowell also? It’s a little more competitive than UMass Boston, but less competitive and expensive than UMass Amherst. If your parents are looking for an affordable place to live in the Boston metro area, Lowell and nearby towns wouldn’t be a bad option - you could have easy commuter rail access to the city without having to go into the city every day for school.

You’d likely be eligible for Honors college at Lowell and it’s more residential /better academically than UMass Boston.

Colleges where you wouldn’t be at a disadvantage as female Smith, Wellesley. Also look deaply into Rice. They just instituted a full ride or full tuition ? for any student whose family males under 100,000 and they have a 50/50 male female ratio and you would get the geographic diversity bump.

@iiMimic : how is it going?
Anything new?

Just adding that UMass Boston just opened a new residence hall.
