White House Internship Summer 2019

I think they take around 150

what do you think the breakdown is among classes (like rising seniors juniors and sophomores)

My guess is that they don’t care what class you are in. I think some graduate students apply too.

Yeah, I happen to be one, LOL. Hopefully it works out…

When I applied previously two years ago, upwards of 1k applicants (overall acceptance rate was around 10%)

Bummer.

Yeah I’m a first semester sophomore this semester so I think I have a low chance, but I figured I might start applying now.

Summer isn’t an ideal time to go to DC as there are too many interns so less chance of getting meaningful experiences. Often elected officials and even federal employees take part of the summer off so less people to learn from.

Yeah. It’s unfortunate, but that’s how school schedules are sadly.

Everyone doing well/heard anything? I have exams here/preparing for exams til mid-March, so that makes time go by a bit faster with this wait.

Danny, did 1,000 people apply during the summer internship two years ago? I haven’t heard anything as of yet. How does the process work from what people know?

Yeah, summer 2017. Haven’t heard anything either. It’s probably still a bit early. Maybe beginning/mid-March.
Judging from previous threads, interviews occur (often with specific offices), then some applicants are asked to fill out security clearance forms (those are the ones who usually get the conditional offer).

How much experience does everyone have in the political sector? Previous iterations of this forum have not really gone into detail.

Also, has anyone’s LinkedIn been viewed? I disclosed my account in the application.

Super anxious until April.

Did anyone else have to change their password on the application site before it let you log in?

Yes, I did have to. I worked for my state’s republican party during the midterms. I am confused about one thing. Danny said that around 1,000 people applied two summers ago. This article says that 1,000 people applied two years ago during the fall. So are summer and fall really that comparable? However, I’ve read other reports that say a few thousand apply every year. Is that standard talk? Is it more likely that around 1,000 people apply for every cycle since most people our age tend to be liberal? https://www.heraldextra.com/news/community/higher-education/uvu-student-grateful-for-intern-experience-at-white-house/article_9c982312-d3cd-5413-8795-87b19aca40a6.html https://www.heraldextra.com/news/community/higher-education/uvu-student-grateful-for-intern-experience-at-white-house/article_9c982312-d3cd-5413-8795-87b19aca40a6.html

@CrunchoMunch It seems odd that Summer and Fall would have similar applicant sizes. I assume most applicants are students, so unless they take a semester off, they can only intern during the summer. A coworker of mine who applied for Fall 2018 and told me that 1500-2000 had applied. He ended up getting rejected.

How would your coworker know? It says that the Fall of 2018 had several thousand applicants in the article.

@CrunchoMunch The article is talking about Fall 2017 based on its timing, and I presume my coworker read something similar that cited the number he gave me. I am interested in knowing if the exact number of applicants per term has trended upwards or downwards since Spring 2017.

That was the wrong article here is the right one. https://news.gcu.edu/2019/01/white-house-internship-was-in-familys-dna/ It says that there were several thousand.

Can you ask your coworker where he got his source?
