White House Internship Summer 2019

I was contacted last week for a phone interview and today I was offered the position for this summer.

Congratulations! Which department will you be a part of? Interesting it was that early, the website said April 1st. If you don’t mind me asking, would you mind detailing a bit of your experience in the political sector? I’m really looking to gauge what they value in an applicant.

Thank you! I will be in the IT and Fin department. I honestly don’t have any political background or experience. I just have experience in Corporate Finance.

AlexWitt I think you’re in the wrong thread man. They won’t notify anyone, accepted or not, until the first week of April. It goes against their established policies and procedures. Furthermore, the IT and Fin Dep is not on the list of departments.

If you guys are talking about the White House Internship Program this summer, then I am in the correct thread. Also, Financial Management Operations is within the IT department. It wasn’t in the list when I applied, but that is where I was placed and is what is listed in my offer that I received today. I’m sure it is different for each department when it comes to offers and interviews, but I do agree that it is weird they offered before the date listed online. Let me know if you guys get an offer because I will need friends haha

Did they initially contact you by email or by phone?

They called me and I missed it because I was in class, but they followed up with an email. After that there were just two phone calls and then I got a tentative offer today pending my drug test and background check.

That’s really awesome! So you applied the normal way, right? Ranking 5 departments and all that? And did they mention anything about when other offices would interview?

Thank you! And yeah I just applied through the website in November and they emailed me on the 5th of February saying there was a delay in the process due to the shut down, but other than that my first time hearing from them was last week. The interviewing process was very quick.

Also I did rank five departments and I did not talk to them about when other departments would interview.

Happy March! Hopefully some interview invites get issued in the next two weeks. T’would be nice.

My guess is that people who have hard skills such as computer programming or financial modeling may get picked up first. Last year, in Feb. I remember seeing job ads on Glassdoor for IT and operations intern positions in the White House for summer 2018. They probably look at the skills candidates have and department needs and match the best they can.

What kinds of questions did they ask you?

Hi, all! I got an email today to set up an interview.

congrats! what dept reached out to u?

Looks like it’s begun. I haven’t received anything but maybe something next week?

did anybody get a random call with no prior contact? i got a call from a specific department and my call only lasted 10 minutes. they didn’t ask anything about my qualifications or application, kinda just random questions.

Nothing. :frowning:

Does anyone know if they send you an email to prompt an interview or just call

Nothing here yet…
