So from what I can tell Whitman sounds pretty great (I am really interested in science and it sounds like they have a pretty great science program). The one thing that I am scared about is that the Greek system there will completely overpower the rest of the social life there, so my question I guess is whether the greek life is really intense there or whether it just is there for a good party from time to time.

o also what do you think my chances are of getting in

GPA weighted 3.8
Taken 2 AP Science Courses + 6 Honors Courses

SAT:
660 Math 660 reading comp 600 writting: 1930 (trying to get this up)

my school doesnt have rankings so o well

I have a list of extra curriculars that i dont feel like typing but the above is my basic school record.

My daughter enjoys the parties at the Greek houses but says they are not at all a big deal on campus. Some of their parties apparently are Greek only for the first couple of hours but they usually open up to the rest of the students later. They are very low key - not like it is at a large university. She’s felt no pressure to join and doesn’t really see any advantage in it as the campus is already very inclusive and social. As far as your stats, I’m not sure. It might be a low reach for you. Make sure you express interest by visiting if possible, and at least interview.

Are you a girl or a guy? The Greek guys have fraternity houses, but the Greek girls live in a section of one of the residence halls, or just in regular dorm rooms. I was told that the frat house parties get very loud and go very late into the night.

Whitman places a large emphasis on GPA, so that will help you with admission. It’s a great school with a beautiful campus. Good luck!

thanks guys, and yes I was planning on applying early decision or at least visiting this summer, so I wanted to make sure that before I did that that the college would be worth it and that the greek system was not too overbearing.

also kolijma what does your daughter think of the school as a whole?

She’s very happy. She chose Whitman over a higher ranked school and other schools that offered full scholarships, so we were a bit concerned she might have regrets, but she has absolutely none. She started with a Scramble (pre freshman year wilderness orientation trips) and made some good friends right away. For her Whitman is academically rigorous but inspiring, and the social aspect exceeded her expectations–friendly and engaged students, intramural sports, skiing, on campus talks, theater productions. She also got an on campus job she likes. She had a fantastic first year and can’t wait to go back in the fall.

wow that sounds great, I have a couple of other schools that I am interested in but as far as I can tell Whitman is probably going to be my first choice, thank you for your in put
