Who bought and IPAD? Are you satisfied?

It’s a nice additional device that complements a desktop or laptop.

I’ve had mine for a few weeks and it’s a wonderful device. I can walk around the house with it instead of being tied down to a desk. I have laptops too but they’re a little unwieldy to move around a lot. The iPad has 10+ hours of battery life and it charges off USB ports so I don’t have to carry around an external power adapter. I have the iPod connectors at home and office so I can just plug them into the iPad to charge it and I don’t have to worry about power.

It is a wonderful device in that you can take it to someone to show them something. Before the iPad, you’d bring them over to whereever your device was to show them something.

I don’t miss flash. I think that it’s just a product of convenience on the web and I’m hoping that the web goes on to something else that’s open.

You can write on it if you wish using an external bluetooth keyboard.

It has VPN built into the operating system so I can connect into my office. I understand that there may be VNC and telnet tools.

I pop the iPad in my tennis bag as my club has WiFi and I can check stocks or email or news when we’re done with matches. I understand that I can also set it up to make phone calls with Skype. I’ll get around to setting that up one of these days.

It’s somewhat of a liberating device. It can be used for some of the things that I used to use a laptop for.

I am trying to decide between a large kindle and an iPad and it is driving me crazy. I have a netbook that I love and I think what I really want is an ereader, so I am leaning toward the kindle, but I keep going back and forth…

I went through the iBookstore with my daughter last night and the number of titles was underwhelming. She was looking for Garfield or Calvin and Hobbs. I haven’t tried Amazon’s e-bookstore - do they have a gazillion titles? I suppose that I could download the Kindle app for iPad and take a look.

I’ve hooked up my iMac Bluetooth keyboard to the iPad and it greatly improves the device for entering a lot of text.

I want to be able to plug an iPad into a video projector and use it as a presentation tool, but it looks like you can’t mirror the iPad display onto a projection screen. I would like to then be able to draw and circle things on the iPad and have it show up on the projections screen, but this does not seem possible, right?

[Apple iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.)](Power & Cables - iPad Accessories - Apple)

I know about this connector, but when I read the reviews at this web site, I see exactly the complaints that I am referring to. There does not appear to be an ability to mirror the iPad display or to point at things or mark things during a presentation.

The iPad is definitely not a computer replacement. It is an entertainment device. If you are considering a Kindle vs iPad, the iPad will definitely give you much more bang-per-buck, but there are also many more distractions on the iPad.

Final decision: "And now I am trying to decide between a Kindle DX and a Kindle 2 "

Anyone got the Kindle DX… I will order the gift soon…so please share your experience!

^Why would you buy the Kindle DX? Put in $10 more and you can get the iPad!
