Who here is a sports fan?

Seems like a strange question but talking with some buddies that are ahead of me a few years says that real science majors aren't sports fans. You see I am an avid sports fan and I want to major in biology.

To be blunt my friends have always had this thing against sports- I'm not sure why. Anyway, if I can get confirmation from some of you all about science majors/ scientists that there are some of them that are big sports fans I would appreciate it.
Thanks

I’m a Statistics major (classified in the college of Sciences at my school). If I had time I would be getting a minor in Biology, but the BS degree requirements for Stats don’t really allow an additional 30 credit minor very easily.

I love sports. Big passion of mine. Golf, football, college basketball. I used to love baseball, but I’ve fallen away from that lately.

That being said, most of the science classes I have are filled with the non-sports types. The computer science classes I take seem to be filled with guys that have never a) watched a sporting event and/or b)talked to a girl.

It is weird how some majors seem to have stereotype students. In general I think it is true that science majors tend to not be as into sports.

Yeah it is odd. I think it comes down to the science types are passionant about just that— science…and generally don’t have room/time for sports. I know that is a stereotype but it seems to carry a lot of truth.

Passionate people are passionate people. My work does take up an enormous amount of time, sometimes edging in on 75 hours a week (I am a grad student), but there are still waking hours remaining in the day. I am an avid Avalanche fan and catch probably a game a week or so during the season no matter how hectic work gets.

Ha- I just found out I was accepted into the undergraduate business school and the MIS program…so it’s a moot point for me now. This was my first choice all along. I will be happier about fitting in better over there for sure.

So no one chatsized me for switching majors because I didn’t think I fit in with science majors. I was expecting a lashing from some of you all… I was actually kidding and am not sure what I’m going to do. Thank goodness I’m a freshman…

I hope you’re just messing around. Please don’t switch your major because you’re afraid you might “fit in” better under a different major. You have to do what you want to do.

OminousRun-
Yeah like I said I’m still undecided but heavily leaning towards Biology.
You mentioned that “science majors tend not to be as into sports” meaning there are some (a few) that are, correct? As long as there are some I think I’ll be ok… I would just need someone to chat about last nights game (or whatever) with, you know?

Thanks for taking the time to chat.

I am a mathematics and physics major. Do you mean to be into sports as in playing sports or watching sports or both? I enjoy to play most sports, but I only enjoy watching a few types of sports.

Either/or…

I’m a bio major and a huge sports fan. Watching, playing, living, breathing. That’s me.

I’m a huge hockey fan, but I also love Science, especially Biology. Don’t ever try to classify or stereotype life - it doesn’t work. Generalizations restrict people. You can love Science, English, and History - and STILL be a sports fan, what’s wrong with that? Nothing. I love all those subjects, I love academia.
