The kid who gets straight As in all regular classes, or the kid who gets Bs in honors/AP classes?
This is a very common question, and generally the latter is what’s preferred. That said though, you should also make sure to take classes based on what you’re interested in, not just what looks good to colleges.
A joke that many colleges crack (at least at the info sessions I have gone to) is “the kid who gets all As in Honors/AP classes!” But, in all seriousness, colleges would prefer that you challenge yourself, rather than coast through high school. If this means Bs, so be it- at least you’re trying.
If it’s a matter of ALL A’s vs. ALL B’s, I’d take the 4.0 student.
The 1.0 GPA difference is a gap too wide to bridge.
Who is better in this situation: The person who dedicates their time to one club/activity, or the person who dedicates their time to a wide range of clubs/activities?
The weighted GPA calculation at my kids’ school sets the two to be exactly equal
To your second question @Shanban1607, the first is absolutely better.
"Who is better in this situation: The person who dedicates their time to one club/activity, or the person who dedicates their time to a wide range of clubs/activities? " “Better”?
I’d say the person who is “better” is the one who isn’t obsessed with trying to figure out who is “better” and just goes ahead and pursues their interests without worrying about who other people think is “better”.
@mathyone haha, I am not obsessed with being seen as “better” by others. Trust me. I am happily pursuing what I enjoy and I couldn’t care less what people think of me. Though I do agree with you, anyone who constantly does everything they can to be “better” than someone else, they need to chill.
I just posted this because I wanted to hear others opinions, to see which attribute they see as more valuable.
The unanswerable questions.
The kid who gets A’s in Honors/AP courses.
Well, most recruited athletes have the grand total of one EC, and since they are they only ones for whom EC’s are a hook, I’ll go with former. In all seriousness, quality over quantity.
Keep in mind that a B is worth 4 points in AP classes…
