I'm a prospective transfer student and was wondering if the majority of upper division classes were taught solely by professors, or with the aid of grad students leading discussion sections? I know some lower division class sections are taught by TAs, but I wasn't sure if this continued with the upper division classes. I would be in the economics department if that makes a difference.

i'm a freshman engineer, the only class i have thats being taught by a grad student is my multivariable calc class, and he's the "professor", not at t/a. the t/a's are also grad students for that class, and they lead discussions. My chem class also is "taught" (lab lecture) by a real professor, but the labs are all led by the grad student t/a's (and even then, they generally do a pretty good job)

I'm a freshman here, and all my classes are taught by professors. Two are pretty big lectures (~150), my math class is around 18 people (taught by a great professor), and my freshman seminar (15 ppl, taught by one of the top professor in the history department) is the smallest. You'll get plently of advising and attention here. I'm pretty sure classes get smaller and more focused as you move up.
