Hi all.

I am applying to Master's programs in Computer Science. I know I can get strong letters of recommendation from two people, but I am unsure as to who I should ask to for the third letter. One letter I can get from my mentor from an REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) summer program, the other from a professor from my own school from whom I've taken a couple of cognitive science classes.

The third letter can come from one of a couple of my current professors. The guy I would like to ask knows who I am and seems impressed with my work in his class so far, but he is another cognitive science guy and I feel like if I ask him I won't have anything really specific to computer science; two cognitive science guys and a research mentor. I could also ask my current prof. for software design and documentation, which I feel is more general to the field, but he does not know me as well (I've spoken up in class and he knows my name, but I don't think I stand out).

So my question is: Is it better to be well rounded to my field than to ask for recommendations from both cognitive science guys?

Thanks in advance!
