First off, I would like to apologize if this thread is in the wrong section. I am new, and am still trying to figure out where to post certain things.

Now here comes the thread.
I am a high school sophomore. I am well aware that extra curricular activities greatly make up an individual's college app. I can handle getting a 4.7 (weighted) next year, and my self study this summer in order to kick the SAT's a**, but what troubles me the most right now are what my extra circular's will be. I have done a little here and there already, but I have been jumping around to different activities which don't look fantastic on applications. I want to stand out to colleges, I want to differ from other students that got the same grades as I did. And I also want this extra curricular to be meaningful. Maybe isn't the right word meaningful. But what I mean by meaningful is that I don't want to volunteer at an animal shelter or help set up tables at a spelling bee. I want a position where I have an opportunity to move up and take a role as more of a leader. Maybe not "the" leader, but a position that requires more work than the average volunteer. If you guys have any ideas on what I could do, just reply with anything you can think of. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this long "shpeal" of mine haha.

Oh and I live down in southern california around the Huntington Beach area.
My areas of interest are acting, chemistry, english, history. Don't know if this will help you but if it does then great :)

Everyone has different interests and people pursue those interests and that shows in their extracurriculars. My advice is do what you like. If you like acting, then participate in acting and show your passion for it. If it is more academic, you can join Science Olympiad or MUN. I would recommend starting ASAP to make your profile is as good as possible. I live in the same area as you and I think that there is a lot of opportunity in the area.

I was hoping for an answer more along the lines of what leadership positions I can work up to. Yes, I want to focus on something I enjoy doing, but searching is difficult, especially when I have only so few ties. I don’t want the typical Surfrider or Salvation Army volunteer opportunity because so many people do it and it is very difficult to move up in status because the organizations are so large.

If you want, you can try for Key Club.

There are lots of leadership positions. It’s a wonderful experience, too.

At the Club level:
Committee Chairs
Regular Member
President
Vice President
Treasurer
Bulletin Editor

At the Division level:
Lieutenant Governor
Some divisions have boards (secretary, etc) as well, it depends on your district

At the District level:
District Governor
District Secretary
District Treasurer
District Bulletin Editor

At the International level: <— You have to be REALLY dedicated and qualified to even think about getting here.
Key Club International President (there is only one in the world)
Key Club International Trustee

There’s also Convention Chair and Convention Aide, if you want to help run your District Convention.
They also have International Convention Chairs and whatnot for the International Convention.
