Who Would You Accept?

Seems like the OP is the parent of C who is critical of the personality traits and the choices of what she or he believes to be the people who will compete most with C in a couple of years and eager to get assurance that C is on the right track compared to A and B. The thing is, had A or B (or their parent) written the post, the personality ascribed to C may have been less favorable. Not a good game to play. Better to encourage all 3 to pursue their course work and activities with strong commitment. I’d guess some of the negative comments at the end of the description of C is meant to obscure who wrote the post. Could be wrong.Am I?

Probably none. Looks like they haven’t even taken the SAT yet!

Probably b but??? freshmen. Most awards are i only notable in high school. Besides, people change and one of them may become a slackers or become a noble prize laureate. High school is what makes and breaks you. And just an fyi, unless you are at a prep school or top of nation, perfect in everything is very unlikely. People ranked top in the nation don’t get perfect scores bc of careless mistakes. High scores near perfect are possible with hard work. Anyway, it is what happens from now on that will decide where they go. A lot happens in 4 years

@lostaccount. No, I am not the parent of C. I admit I have a bias towards C, because he is a closer friend than A and B, but for the most part I hope I am objective. And yes, I am eager to see who would do better, because, while I do see them as competition, I am curious as to who would have a better chance at their top choice schools (B and C for MIT and A for Stanford) based on how they stand now.

Also, I feel that while I am dedicated to my classes and EC’s, I’ve noticed what appear to be glaring flaws in the plans of others: spreading their EC’s too thin, taking easy classes, or doing common EC’s that are stereotypically ‘asian’, and would like to know how disadvantaged each of them are, and hopefully learn something to improve for myself.

Just curious: How many people actually read other comments before posting? I have mentioned several times that they are all freshman and therefore don’t have statistics or written anything, and I probably won’t know them once they get scores back, at least not immediately. Additionally, I’ve even said that they all have perfect GPA’s for the year (no plus or minus on letter grades = only 4.0, 3.0, etc. for yearly grades per class), and while they would not be 1st or second in ranking because they cannot take any AP’s, I expect them to rank highly because they are likely to take a lot of AP’s (easy or not).

Taking Algebra in 6th, 7th grade-- I doubt any college cares. What you take in high school and how you do is what is considered.

I go to a different type of school, so we do not worry about being state finalists in anything so I cannot say, In my school the important thing is to show consistency in ECs. So our debate team as long as you participate every year, play other schools, that is all that matters. If you are asian, you may want to think about Drama club or cheerleading, something not typically asian. Starting sophomore year. Is Debate typically asian? Sorry do not mean this to be offensive

OP, they are FRESHMAN. Leave them!

I debated and I wouldn’t say debate is “Asian”. The tournaments across state lines I have gone to have all been very diverse.
