Who's also looking for off-campus apartments? (UCLA)

Hi,

I'm looking to rent a room in an apartment off-campus. I don't mean university owned apartments. Just any in the vicinity that's a good price and I don't mind commuting to school as long as there's a bus that goes directly to campus.

I have some questions for current UCLA students living in apartments:
1) When is the best time to look for an apartment? Generally, when is the time period most students start to move out of their rooms?

Right now, I've found some nice places, but they all request move-in by June. But I only plan to move in sometime in September. Should I wait a little later to start looking for rooms, or should I just take up those offers?

Anyways, if anyone out there has other questions or answers on apartments, please post them so maybe we can help each other out.

Thanks!

You should start looking ASAP. Get a feel of the apartment buildings you'd like to live in. Take down numbers, take pictures of the apartments/buildings, take tours of apartment in the buildings, if there's waiting lists, sign up on the waiting lists. However, you probably won't be able to finalize a specific apartment building until September if that's when you're looking to move-in because most managers won't know who's leaving until about a month before. So, I'd recommend taking the list of apartments that you really like, vising those places about a month to a month and a half before you want to move in. As for when most students move out, it's usually the end of June - which is why you're seeing so many offers.
