Why AEM/Hotel considered easy by some?

Personally, math problems>writing>>reading

I always kind of associate reading with writing.

AEM 324 Finance gives me nightmares.

AEM classes do not start getting hard until junior year.

The majority of the pre-meds at Cornell know that "pre-med" is as far as they are going to get in their medical career, so they need to pick on someone to make themselves feel better.

"bull shizz ILR is easier than either of those two major...and ILRies admit to it"

Nah, I've taken classes in all 3 topics, and it's all relative. I've taken easy AEM classes (well, most of them were easy), easy ILR classes, and easy Hotel classes ... I've also taken very difficult ILR classes. The hardest class I've ever taken was an ILR class, and one of the easiest classes I've taken was actually the Intro to Wines class at the Hotel school.

I know many people who struggled through Intro to Wines and barely made the 70% needed to pass (and some who didn't!). Yet I though it was a breeze. Why? Not because I'm smarter or anything, I just had a massive interest in the topic. The same can be said for bio or math or engineering. It's all relative.

so what kind of job/income level can someone from ILR, AEM, and hotel be looking at after graduation. (i know this thread is 3 years old, lol)

i agree, it's a relative. maybe because all AEM/hotel students are even more excellent? :)

I would not say any major is exactly "easy" at Cornell. Though I am a science major, and take many classes with both engineers and premeds, I have also taken Hotel classes and will be taking AEM classes.

Math and science classes are intense. People study A LOT and want to do better than everyone else - or at least be in the top standard deviation. The people in these classes are worried about getting into grad school or med school and thus worry about their grades.

In the Hotel school, the work is practical. So though you may not see a Hotellie reading a book or doing problem sets, he/she may be putting in hours on a group project or learning how to properly serve a dinner (believe me, that was not easy). The hotellies are also very different from the scientists and engineers - just think about what kind of people do each job! They usually want to enjoy themselves and not worry too hard over exams. Between their more relaxed personality and lesser need/want to go onto grad school (unless it's for an MBA in a few years after graduation), it only appears that their major is easier.

The work is very different, but neither are easy majors. Granite, in the Hotel School you can learn how to cook and plunge toilets. But if you are wanting to go into the hospitality business that is just as important as radical reactions to an organic chemist.

cornell_girl what's your major and what allowed you to take classes in more than one school? Is your course schedule flexible enough for you to do that?

probably because hotelies just make powerpoint presentations for homework. and they arent as stressed out. they actually sleep too, unlike us archies
