You're one of the very few that get in with a low GPA.

well im pretty sure i got spring cause of my sat score.. but i know someone in fall that got the same sat score, except my GPA and ECs were way better than hers.. so i dont get it.. but it doesnt matter, i think spring will be nicer because it'll give us some more time to adjust... what does it matter at the end of 4 years, all managers/grad school will see us as berkeley students anyway

One of my friends is a spring admit with an SAT Score of 1590, so I would venture to say that it is indeed for less qualified applicants.

There are many fall admits that are less competitive than spring admits. Likewise, I know of spring admits with higher SAT scores than fall admits if you want to play the pure numbers game.

I know for one that certain high schools have a pact with UC Berkeley such that they are given some leverage in terms of admissions consideration because of their disadvantaged financial background-they are admitted into the fall. They get a free ride as well (not based on merit like RCSA). Some even have a residue left so that they are getting paid to come to Berkeley.

yeah SATs aren't everything
i got spring with 2250, but some girl from my school who got fall didn't break 2000

Asura, he must have a really high gpa or be really disadvantaged. I didn't study at all my first time taking the SAT and got a 1800.

This thread is kinda depressing because so many got spring with lower SATs and gpas.

Honestly you will NEVER ever know why. You can guess and guess and that will upset you but once you actually go here for a few semesters, it will be as if it never happened.

Cal tried to admit springs by lotto, but lost too many strong kids who went elsewhere. Today, the spring admits are the lower end of the holistic admit pool, which factors in everything in the application. Thus, decent gpa, high test scores, and lousy essay could put one in the spring pile.

Once you are there, what you do at CAL is what matters not what you did in HS. S1 was a Spring Admit, currently a 3rd year and on the Dean's Honors List for this past fall semester. (go bears....)
