Why Boston College?

I’m making a thread to learn why people chose to attend bc, what they loved, what maybe they didn’t love, and what you thought or think of your whole experience. Thanks!!

Bumpity bump bump

I’m currently a freshman guy at BC so obviously I’m not that far removed from where you are right now. I visited the campus last year three times (I’m from NY) and loved it. I went in both the summer and fall so I got a good feel of what it’s like to be there when classes are in session and when they’re not. My reasons for choosing it were:

 1. Great reputation. Are we ivy? no. But people know of and respect the BC name. Plus, we have a great alumni network.
 2. We’re not all work. People here know how to have fun and while we’re not as wild as the MIT frats, BC isn’t a bad place to party… if you’re smart.
 3. The academics. Yeah, we have an impressive staff and courses. It’s respectable.
 4. The environment. I love the student body and its stigmas. No one feels left out, but the typical BC’er is definitely more on the preppy side… which is okay because it’s not overwhelming… people just look neat and clean.
 5. Boston.
 6. It’s an amazing place to be and the retention rate is high which means people love it.

Honestly, BC is only going to keep getting more competitive (higher status), more remodeled (better campus), and the schools investing heavily in new teachers and courses so you’ll have a great 4 years here. Oh, and if you’re looking at grad schools, BC looks great for undergrad.

What I don’t love:

1) I partied A LOT in high school so going from that to a school where guys do sometimes have a hard time getting into parties was hard at first. It’s a trade-off and it will only get better, but I wish it was different.
2) The strictness: BC comes off really strict and most RA’s will enforce policies and the police do make themselves seen on campus which sucks, BUT most of what happens is all talk. From what I’ve heard, getting written up is really nothing to be worried about unless it’s because of drugs.
