<p>Those numbers include room & board. Out-of-state tuition is just over 20K per year more than in-state. Your two examples had differences of 14-15Kish, as does UW and several other schools I am familiar with. So the WM differential is about 5K more than those examples (20k vs. 15k). I don’t see that as excessive. I’m sure there are states with a larger difference, or at least very close.</p>
<p>To me, W&M is a bit unusual in that it is like a public LAC. It is smaller than most of the highly respected public universities throughout the country. I think that Maryland’s St. Mary’s College is trying to develop into that sort of college although it certainly doesn’t have the draw that W&M does.</p>
I believe these are figures for regular decision. I can’t find the acceptance rate for ED this year - probably not looking in the right places - but I know almost 1100 students applied ED.</p>
<p>I understand that William and Mary is better than those schools but if you look back they asked for a cost comparison of my in state schools to William and Mary.</p>
<p>You’re right, I missed that in scanning the article. If deliberate, and consistent, this is a pretty dangerous game to play, as it feeds those populists in the GA who want to put draconian limits / punishments on OOS students. Push too far, and one of these wrong-headed bills may pass …</p>
