While we’re on the topic…

I was thinking the other day about how I would write my “Why” essay having experience Columbia already. I found my answer walking back from my Lit Hum final. To me, the key word is immediacy.

Physically:
At no other university do freshmen dorms flank a world class library.
No other university packs utilizes space like we do. All of campus is 5 minutes away.

Intellectually:
We concentrate on the classics. We cut straight to the source of civilization and human culture.

And of course, the city:
We are on the doorstep of a major artery in New York City. We reap the benefits of the largest academic and cultural community in the world. Any object or experience you will ever need is just around the corner.

just my rough thoughts.

I’m extremely sorry if i hurt your feelings by making grammatical errors in my initial post. I wrote it in a hurry because i was at a cybercafe and i only had a few seconds left. It must be traumatic for an intellect of your stature to read such unsophisticated sentences. From Aristotle and Plato to this!

so for your benefit i shall humbly rephrase my question.

" Good morning/afternoon/evening to you. I have recently been successful in completing the required ‘why Columbia ?’ essay that is limited to six hundred characters. I would be delighted if a student currently studying at the esteemed university would we so kind as to review my essay and give me his well informed opinion on the same. Thank you. "

Thank you for the insight into Columbia University.

…bump…

I’ll read!

“We cut straight to the source of civilization and human culture.”

Restricted here, of course, only to the western world. And as anyone would tell you, nowhere near the source of civilization and human culture. What an absolutely ignorant statement. Why don’t you open your mind a little, actually begin reading outside the assigned material and see all that this universe has to offer?
