Hi!
I was told that a popular combination for a comp-sci based double major is a comp sci and business double major.
Why is this popular, and what are the advantages of having such a double major?

I think a big one is two lucrative career routes. It would also give you an edge up in the CS jobs in the financial sector.
Seems like something a student motivated almost entirely by pre-professional motivations would want to do.
@ucbalumnus is this a good thing or bad thing?
Neither I would say. It depends why you’re asking the question I guess.
A friend of the family told me that this is an option, so I am looking into it. Not interested in it at all, but I want to understand why people do this.
If the primary focus of school for you is getting a job and you had genuine interest in both fields, I’d say go for it. If you don’t have a large interest in both or are not THAT worried about getting a job, then one of the two will do just fine, and you can always take classes in the other if you wanted without going full blown double major.
Makes you for versatile for jobs as well as giving you the technical and business skills to start a start-up.
It depends on the school, only entrepreneur classes would be helpful. I had a minor in business and major in engineering. I never used the business part. But it was helpful in my personal situation.
