I am applying as a physics major to Cornell and was wondering if anyone could tell me something cool from their physics classes or something interesting and unique. Also any general advice on applying to Cornell would be awesome!
Thanks!
LOL you need to figure out ‘why Cornell’ for you. If the real reason is that it’s a fancy name, you need better reasons anyway. Digging up somebody else’s tidbit is not going to build a convincing essay. Do more research into the program, the profs, the student groups, etc.
the Cornell Chronicle is the official daily university publication. It covers activities on campus, including research, speakers, and faculty profiles. You can search for “physics” and get lots of stories, going back years, on physics and other scientific activities at Cornell. There may be material that will interest you and provide a basis for the Why Cornell essay.
I hope you are able to go and visit, as Cornell is a wonderful place that people may have different reactions to. My husband taught there for a number of years. I am not familiar with the physics program specifically, but as a whole Cornell’s pros include a beautiful campus, access to many outdoor activities and a charming college town. Cons might include the isolation of the campus if you are not into outdoor activities, and the winter weather. YMMV
