Why did I get no Financial Aid? Columbia University

So, you were admitted ED, your parents can pay, they are willing to pay, and it’s your dream school. Stop feeling sorry for them, stop guilt-tripping yourself, thank them for their generosity, and since you’re aware you’re incredibly lucky, channel that into helping those who aren’t as lucky, in any way you are suited to.

yes that is correct. I already decided to accept the offer, as it is my dream school, though sometimes I do feel very bad about my parents paying that much money. And certain family members definitely think its a waste of money.

fair point

Two things matter.

In the end, I think all of us who responded took your original post too literally. We thought you could not afford Columbia. However, you can, you want to attend, and you were offered admission.

Alls well that ends well.

I’m sure you will end up making your parents prouder even than they are now.

Ultimately the decision is between yourself and your parents so don’t fret other family members.

Many get a little sticker shock once they realize that merit or financial aid isn’t as much as they expected. Don’t sweat it, we as parents do what we can for our children.

Congratulations.

Yes, it’s a common thing that families with assets that make EFC $130K don’t receive fin aid.
