<p>LAC generally means a school that focuses on Arts & Sciences. Some of those have other colleges such as engineering. The main reasons most LAC's don't have engineering is that they are usually small and devote themselves to the "broad" based A&S type of education, and having an engineering college costs an arm and a leg, particularly labs and all the engineering equipment for those labs.</p>
