Why do people not go to college? Help me figure this out!!!!

I am making a survey for high school students for a project and I have some ideas. Can you guys help me make better questions? Do you think the options are right? Should I add/change them?

For example, you could say that question 1a, should be written out different. Also, people can choose any options that they want to.

This is what I have so far:

  1. The main reason I chose/will chose the college I will attend is because: a I can afford it b It’s close to my home c A recommendation from someone I know (like a family member, teacher, counselor, or mentor d The school’s reputation e I know people who will also be enrolled or already attending f Other: _______________________________
  2. If you are not planning to pursue college education at this time, what is the most important reason?

a I cannot afford it
b I need to have an income
c I need to support my family
d I don’t like school
e A college education is not needed for my job/what I want to do as a career
f My grades/test scores are too low
g It is important for me to join the military
h College will be too hard for me
i I feel like I don’t belong in college

Aren’t “I cannot afford it / I need to have an income / I need to support my family” all the same thing?

Most value $wag, parties, and shoes over education. For some reason, the low-income kids at my school all have 20 pairs of shoes, while I have 3. Why? I don’t know lmao

I think the “I need” for the family and income response should be changed to “It is important for me”

I need to support my family doesn’t necessarily have to mean the same as “I cannot afford it / I need to have an income”, sometimes people have to be there physically to support family. It doesn’t always mean financially, they could have parents in the hospital, disabled or younger siblings, etc.

And personally, my answer to #1 would be I like the education and courses offered at that particular college. Don’t know if that would be a popular opinion but…

Good thinking, rippedfishnets!

@praeda‌ That’s true, I didn’t think about it like that.
