Why do people want to go to Ivy League schools?

This is something that i've been wondering about, Personally, I don't see much diffrence between going to an ivy league school rather than an ordinary university. Do Ivy league graduates have better job prospects? What are the benefits of going to an Ivy league school?

They’re Ivy League schools

^Is that the only value?

It’s good for picking up chicks at bars.

Prestige, graduate and professional school placement, financial aid, peers, scholarship of professors

^
That’s reasonable, but what do you mean about financial aid and scholarship of professors?

They are very prestigious schools and people who go there often go on to get high paying jobs. Also, Ivy league schools such as Harvard have tremendous financial recourses and brilliant professors.

^^that and the environment in which they’re set. Just like any other college.

I find that it tends to give you more cred in the working world. Especially the big name ones.

^they have better FA b/c of better endowments and the professors are ‘more’ scholarly

Pretty much what PioneerJone’s thread says.

I get to drop the H-bomb, of course

not necessarily.

Silver turtle basically summed it up. I guess another reason is that people think that if they attend an ivy league school:

they can form better connections & netoworking
-have a much easier time finding good job placement.

-Prestige
-Financial Aid
-Renowned Professors
-Networking
-Better job placement
-Rigorous curriculum

^pretty much why I want to go to Ivies.

Prestige. The Ivy name lasts forever, and people do care.

Source: Ivy student who has gotten undeserved “wows” because of his school.

Traditional college experience.

Incredible opportunities. People, unfortunately, do care if your resume says “Havard.”

If your resume says “Havard” as you have pointed out, hobbithill (inb4postedit), then you won’t be hired for lack of attention to detail.

Impress your friends/relatives at parties…

[ul][] Great education
[] Graduate school placement
[] Job placement
[] Great professors
[*] Surrounded by highly motivated intelligent individuals[/ul]

For the lulz
