DreamingBig good ■■■■■■■■ skills u got there

DB’s planning to slip and get hurt in a supermarket.

= $$$

I would be happy to do a intern, especially if it includes payment but really wanted to come home for the summer as I spent most of my last nine months away at school. I also assured my mom that I would be at home during the summer so being out of state for college would be no different than in-state. I have a job on campus, but not at home and not being employed really puts a limit on what all I can do for the summer. I personally prefer to get find a summer job that is not retail or supermarket as none of these are within my career. Today I would take a retail or supermarket job for the summer but unsure if I would place it on my resumes ( doubt it would help in my area).

I have had a hard time finding a job too. Every time I get an interview, it turns out they need me to work during my summer classes, so I can’t work there…

Because some of us aren’t lucky enough to have parents who keep spoon feeding us funds after puberty.

Coolbrezze, put it on your resume. It may be menial but it looks good not to have gaps in work history.

Also, I have seen internships and some of the better jobs for college students (like working in uni admin) ask for A LOT of professional references. It all helps.

Well my job on campus is more like office work than anything like retail and I just fear a retail/ restaurant job will not work well on my resume. However by the time I graduate I plan to have internships/ more job experience that will work great for me.

Thanks for the ideal

romani, stop getting into arguments with them. If you’re nice to your parents, they’ll reward you with the green stuff. Or if you’re like me and you beg them to give you money for games then you’ll also be rewarded.

I make my own money, thanks. Plus, I have a life and friends, why the f**k would I want to spend my life sitting on a couch gaming?

ETA: Yes, I know it’s a ■■■■■. It was a general statement to everyone sitting at home all summer lol.

No need to denigrate me for having diverse interests. Those are hurtful words, my friend. :(

Oh yeah and you dodged the filter. No more cursing for you! :D

Well…I mean like apparently McDonald’s advertises that if you start out as a crew member, you could work your way up to becoming a manager, then the owner of a restuarant and gasp maybe the CEO of McDoanlds!

DreamingBig, I really dislike your “I’m too cool” comments, but I’ll respond to your question to enlighten you.

*Some kids (and adults) work b/c they need the money. They don’t have a mother they can whine to who will throw money just to stop the whining.
*Some kids prefer to work than to sit around playing video games. Sure they play some, but not 24/7
*Some people end up working at menial jobs or jobs at a grocery store and other retail outlets or at food chains b/c that’s what they know and what they’ll comfortable with. (This is also one reason why people get into babysitting and teaching.)
*Some people work at places like McDonald’s b/c that’s the only place that’s hiring.

I find it strange that when I applied to 100+ retail/restaurant type jobs, I only got 2 interviews out of it. One led to a second interview but no job, and the other wouldn’t hire me because you had to be available at all times that the restaurant was open and I was in summer classes.
However, when I applied to only 2 tutoring positions, I got an interview at one and was hired on the spot for the other (which paid a full dollar an hour more than the one that didn’t hire me!). Strange out that works, but I’m glad it turned out that way. :)

Chandi, don’t feel too bad. I’ve actually had two retail jobs in my life. The last one (Target) was horrible. I had this Indian manager who kept yelling at me even when I wasn’t doing anything wrong so one day I just lost it… He yelled my name from about twenty feet away, so I stormed over to him, squared up, and yelled “WHAT!!!”

He also had a problem with me having my shirt untucked.

Later that day I got sent to the human resources office and you can guess what happened next. I never took the job seriously though. In a real job I would never yell at my boss like that. :D

Haha.
My boss right now is actually pretty awesome. I’m glad I didn’t get any jobs before so that I could get this job.

^ OK it really wasn’t that loud but it was a retort with a lot of anger.

“What?!”

so the laziest underachievers won’t think of themselves as too lazy of a lazy ****

Also, outside of working around summer classes, who wants to hire and train a college kid that will be gone on 3time months and probably never work there again

what about the ppl who work retail/supermarkets and scream “im gettin money” but what money? you work retail your a cashier, 500$-1k a month isnt real money. I hate when someone praises these little jobs like they’re to be taking seriously. When your making 100k then your getting real money. I tend to see through alot of things my peers thought were satisfied with, i always felt like me working retail was a waste or for anybody that has bigger goals set

Well, that’s great that you have bigger goals, but if you aren’t doing **** in the summer you might as well get a job.

$500 a month may not be a lot, but its more than $0 a month.
