Why do we need to take the swim test?

actually you can take swimming for your (required) gym class here at cornell if you don't pass the swim test.

if they haven't learned by the time they r 18 whats the point? maybe its for some stupid reason (like the one I have).

because there are a few more years of life after you turn 18 where being able to swim will be useful. the number of people who can't swim on this forum astounds me. maybe i think learning spanish is stupid, or having to take a math course when i want to major in music is stupid, but cornell wants me to take them, so i have to, it's the same thing... (i actually am fine with the math and spanish requirement; i was just making a point)

yah ur right we all have to do things we don't want to. but after i take the swim test im never getting in a pool again. I will take swim classes from my town only to learn what i have to pass on the swim test. i definately won't be taking a semester of swimming for pe. i avoided swimming all through middle and and high school, this i just one obstacle i'll over come.

Learning how to swim is like a 3 hour investment...

and drowning is a "life"time expense
