A Word About Swim Tests...
All new students are required to take a swim test. Non-swimmers and those not meeting the basic swimming competency requirement must enroll in a beginning swim class for the fall semester.

why a swim test? haha it just sounds so random.

Really? That's interesting. I wonder if they do that in Doha, Qatar too. I do know they have 2 swimming pools that are seperated..but that's it. I have a pool, but I don't like to swim anymore. :(

I'm planning to almost drown myself for the first half to put the lifeguards on the edges of their seats (and maybe even hop in the pool), and then break into a smooth front crawl...is that a bad idea?

you're all wrong...its so newly arrived freshman can see each other in their bathing suits- sorta expedites the "hooking up" process, thereby improving the quality of life on campus :D

I'm from the Bay Area (San Francisco Bay Area), and the southern part's called the South Bay (obviously). Besides, the water's too contaminated to take a quick swim in....

it began during World War II, because so many students were going off to fight, and it was deemed a necessary skill to have. After the war ended, the swim test remained. It is a graduation requirement as voted on by the University Faculty. Several years ago it came up for renewal and was reaffirmed by the faculty.
