Why does Canterbury keep that dorm closed? Are they ever going to build that track?

I really want know for my own edification. Is there some campus master plan that is simply not very well illustrated anywhere for public consumption? That campus map from 2011 that has proposed track on it looks really bad in 2017. I also know from first-hand experience that some people will simply take a pass on a school rather than alienate an interviewer with too many negative questions all at once about their school, but I believe more info is better, hence the questions.

So, Canterbury peeps, here’s a chance to talk up this school, and to put some stuff in the best possible light.

Strictly for my own enlightenment and the good of this discussion forum, of course.

But does anyone of any consequence know what’s up with Canterbury? I like the scrappy upstart nature of the school’s founding, going their own way and sticking it to the folks who didn’t want them around. I wish they’d update that map, tho…

MODERATOR’S NOTE: Please stop the bickering or I will close the thread. I deleted several posts.

I know a pro-golfer who went to Canterbury and he loved the school — it’s a school that seems not discussed much on CC - not sure why - but this young man is impressive - he has spoken of the excellent education, the caring teachers and college prep he had @ the school. If the OP finds out more about future plans for the school, please share with us on CC -
Thanks!

I agree that Cbury is a quality school. I like the upstart vibe that carries through the place. I understand completely that a school is not necessarily required to share everything with the public at large, but if they hired me to do marketing, I’d definitely change that map right away. Or put a ‘coming in 2019’ not if appropriate. New Milford is a nice little town too if you dig that western CT action. Quiet corner folks probably hate it. Wrong side.

Our son attends Canterbury and chose it over several other prep schools precisely because he felt comfortable in the administration, teachers and students he had met. He is thriving at this school. The new head of school,Rachel Stone is terrific and her husband is the AD. Sports are an integral part of the education process but educating the total student is the main priority. It is truly a hidden gem among the prep schools that we visited and the most impressive thing about this school is the maturity and confidence exhibited by the students.

I hope you stick around @SaintsMom ! Canterbury deserves a more current voice than my alum brother and my fondness for the school through him. He had a wonderful / life changing experience there and loves going back whenever he has time . Canterbury has a dynamic/ amazing alum network, too.

It sounds like the new Head is off to a great start and your son is really thriving there! Canterbury is a very special place and all the kids I know who went there went on to great colleges and great things. Super nice people, too.

We definitely intend to stick around! You are absolutely right about the dedicated alumni but also the parents, past and present of Canterbury students. The parents impressed us greatly as it was obvious that they wanted the same thing for our son that their sons and daughters experienced. One could tell that they were being totally genuine. Nothing phony or fake about them or the school.

Didn’t Paris Hilton attend?

She did but got the boot.
