Why does Emory have 2 ED plans?

I was thinking about applying to Emory either ED or RD, but I've realized that there are ED I and ED II.

So what's the difference between ED I and II??

Does one have a higher admittance rate?

EDIT.
and this is a little irrelevant to this topic, but HOW IS THE WEATHER in emory? any snow?

I've lived in Arizona through middle school and then I moved to NorCal. It's really hot here and I would LOVE to go somewhere that snows a lot.

Several colleges also offer ED II. It’s for the kid who has Emory as a really strong second choice, but perhaps applied Early somewhere else. If rejected/deferred from ED/EA school, a student may choose to apply ED2 to #2.

Based on the data I saw a few years ago, ED offered a significant advantage at Emory, but ED 2 much less so. Of course, I have no idea if that is true today.

Sure, it snows in Atlanta, but rarely. If you want a lot of snow, look at the NE (Syracuse?) or Wisconsin!

ED II deadline is same as many school’s RD deadline… so does that mean I can apply to Emory ED II and other schools RD ?? and since Emory ED is binding, withdraw my other apps if i get in?

or does it work some other way…?

you can apply but if your accepted ED to any school no matter what round you must withdraw all applications because your suppose to commit there for matriculation. it snows in ATL maybe once or twice a year but it doesnt stick on ground, if your want the emory feel but up north where it snows i heavily recommend university of rochester, top school and great place
