The Princeton threads are active and move quickly. Despite the school's size, the number of Princeton posts (now at 25,000+) dwarf the other IVYs. Posts here are often filled with a vitality and enthusiasm not seen elsewhere.

What is the cause? Is it Princeton, or the type of people who apply to Princeton, that leads to these upbeat, energy filled discussions?

actually its because of the uber awesome ED group we had here. we beefed Princeton's total posts up to 20k or something =D we were a very tight community that enjoyed turning every thread into nonsense talk, it was quite amazing. princeton forum also has the most senior members because of our super CC people from the ED pool =P

we have active posts cuz a lot of us are still from the ED pool and we love each other =D

Shrek - Oh man, those ED extravaganzas.... threads running into 20ish pages. :)

Here's another senior member ED-er, with this post. I've been holding out at 999 for a few weeks, trying to make my 1000th post special, but I guess you could say that tonight, I'm feeling reckless and I'm going to go with this thread. :p 1000 it is!

Alpha, I do think it's because of the type who tends to apply to Princeton. Not to make gross generalizations, but it seems the "prestige whores" applied to Harvard / Yale EA, which is fine by me. The Princeton EDers, for the most part, seemed interested in more than a name, and these were the same students who established the tone of the board. There are definitely Yale and Harvard applicants who care beyond their school's "awe value," but whenever I float over to their boards I encounter many more competitive posts and arguments about prestige, etc. that I rarely see here. On the P-ton board, we're all supportive and love each other. cue sappy music and animated rainbows bounding across the backdrop

Did I mention I'm a senior member with this post?!! ;)
Time to uncork some of that über-delicious ED e-champagne!!

amen to gracey's post. completely true. i believe princeton has a lot more students enrolled who love that school for its educational value while yale/harvard have a lot more students who are there as prestige whores =P

I'm with PW on this one- I still love Princeton. I would be lying if I said I didn't have any misgivings or concerns about the school- it's not perfect. However, I am reassured of my devotion to it simply because of all of the EDers here (and many of the RDers too :)). With all the great people who are either already going or who have a good chance of getting in RD, how can life at Princeton next year be anything but awesome?

and it incites passion in the heart of every prospective Tiger... add the fact that it is ED not EA,which means for many people that Princeton is indeed their absolute top choice school... throw in a little coincidence, and a great group of CCers,
and voila!!

Speaking as an alumna, it's probably the same factor that makes Princeton's Reunions the best-attended in the Ivies. I do believe you can get the best undergraduate education in the world at Princeton - and nothing to do with prestige. At Princeton you get contact with the professors like nowhere else. This leads to the moment you are alone in your dorm or your lab or walking across campus and your 18 or 19 or 20 or 21 year old brain suddenly makes a leap it never made before and for the first time you realize the plain and simple joy of intelligence. Then add the fact that your friends are also people with that kind of mind and they come from extremely diverse backgrounds - tennis players from Houston, club boys from Lebanon, future CEOs of eBay, future owners of juggling camps in Colorado, future professors at MIT - and that you learn loyalty and compassion and adventure in their company.

So congrats you ED kids and I hope my D joins you in RD.
