Why does USNews jump from tier one to tier 3?

What would tier 2 be? Outside the top 50 maybe?

No, Michigan State University was ranked on usnews as 71, and that is in tier 1.

1-50 is technically tier one
then like 51-110 or something is tier two.
it is kinda undefined i believe...like tier one and two are both considered top tier schools

What do you mean technically? Is the #50 university really the same as the #1 in your eyes?
