Why doesn't BC fix the Agora tabs?

This whole thing about the tabs, which appears to be true, is bizarre. Why doesn’t BC just release decisions online or else somehow fix their system?

Dear Fineform : In a nutshell, the tabs are not changed because nothing in the system is broken. If you would prefer online decisions be offered, that is a fine point of argument, but really does not change the ultimate outcome of the entire process.

It just seems like an odd way to find out that you are accepted and gives me the impression that BC is a little behind the times technologically. While that may not be true, it is still the impression I come away with…

Exactly Fineform,

I came away with the feeling that other schools who only do mailings don’t have this same issue year after year. I kind of wish BC would try and “fix” this issue if they want to to continue to send out mailings for decisions.

When I click on “application status” after logging in a Redirecting screen comes up for a brief second then it goes into the usual list of received application (white page) with all of the items listed. I know the Redirecting screen wasn’t there before. Does anyone else have this?

I have it too!! The redirecting page, that is. Now I’m scared/anxious… anyone else have it? If some people have it and others don’t, I think it’s either a really good sign or a really bad one.

I have the redirecting page too. I’m guessing that they’re prepping the site to add tabs for admitted students, and that everyone has this new page.

I have the redirect page also. Guessing that everyone has it.

the redirecting screen appeared today for me too…im anxious about when the decisions are finally going to come out! ahh!

Dear Scott:

I strongly disagree. The IT department at BC is antiquated. Heck, course registration remains a DOS process, (a term which I’m guessing no applicant to the Class of '14 has even heard of).

But more importantly, if BC wants to cling to its snail mail philosophy (nothing wrong with that pov), then Agora should not spill the beans. An applicant should not be able to log in and pay a deposit for a seat days before receiving the acceptance letter. Ditto receiving a financial aid award. It is inconsistent with the snail mail philosophy. If BC will allow Agora to ‘inform’ students of admission, then BC-Admissions should just bite the bullet and post acceptances online. Or, fix the Agora process.

btw: I understand why it happens – that the antiquated IT servers update overnight in batch – but still, IMO, the process IS broken.

FYI…USC’s portal did the same thing. We knew my D had been accepted before she received her packet because of the tab that lead to the enrollment and deposit page.

Mine has the redirecting page as well. Can we all assume that it’s something everybody has?

uh oh… is it bad that my account does NOT have the redirecting page?

Mine doesn’t have it either. At this point, however, I don’t think it means anything for sure.

Are you sure you guys don’t have it? After you log in and click applicant status, you see a page pop up all red with a yellow redirect sign, and then changes to your applicant materials. Try it again…

I didn’t click “applicant status.” So I actually do have it. Like I said before, it probably doesn’t have anything to do with admissions decisions. Probably just updating the system as letters will be mailed out soon.

i did the same thing as BCHS! i actually do have it :)

ps BCHS, do you go to boston college high school? my dad went there, too!

i have the yellow and red redirecting screen, too, but no changes to applicant status

So its settled, everyone has it aka doesnt mean anything

Yep. I do go to Boston College High School. I’m hoping it will give me a leg up on the competition.
