Why doesn't the US use the metric system?

Omgosh, ok fine, this is my rebuttal!

“w t f are u even talking about. 1. america is not the only country with advanced medicine. 2. there are more homeless people here than in some other countries.”

My response:
I never said it was the only one with advanced medicine. By other countries, I do not mean all countries. I would say there are very few countries with a lower homeless population. If there are, most would probably not recevie the same benefits as we do.

"you’re acting like the u.s. is the only 1st world country in the world. christ… "

My response:
I’m sorry if I gave you that impression, but that wasn’t my intent. I never said it was the only 1st world country, did I?

Happy? (Sorry if I offended anyone:/)

No need to apologize. We are number one and there is no denying it. Every other country on earth follows U.S. news. We are the center of the world right now. Two factors.

Strongest military. (By a lot BTW. It is really crazy how dominant our military has become. We could defeat any country in the world without even instituting a draft. Think about that for a second.)

Strongest economy. (We are rich!!!)

FWIW, I actually hate the redneck “this is america” people. But I also hate on the hippies who think it is cool to hate America.

I guess you’re winning in Afghanistan and successfully gotten out of Iraq?

haha. No one thinks this is an attack on the US. Most of us think it’s stupid. hatersunite is just…hating. And the communist guy is just joking.

If you actually look at the statistics, HIV/AIDS is way over propagandized in comparison to other “fatal” venereal diseases (HBV anyone?). Letting HIV/AIDS infected people enter the US is not going to change much.

Haha, I guess…I just thought I’d share:)
This is what I found about the U.S.(We appear on these lists in comparison to the rest of the world):

Number of billionaires-#1 with 269…#2(Japan) has 29 lol

Number of Computers-#1 with 164,100,000 computers…#2(Japan) has 49,900,000

Cost of Living-#13(Most expensive country to live in)

Natural Gas Reserves-#6

Internet Users-#1 (We win this buy almost 100 million…)

Nobel Prize Winners-#1 (270)…#2(UK) (101)

Nuclear Warheads-#2(behind Russia) 12,070 warheads

Olympic Medals-#1(2,112)(We are winning this by almost 1,000)

Mobile Phones-#2(behind China)

Prison Population-#2(We have a lot of prisoners:/) (680 per 100,000 people)

Quality of Life-#6

Wealth-#8

Space Pioneers-#2(behind Russia)

Student Population-#1(14,261,778 university students)

Number of Workers-#3

I just found these facts and thought I’d post them:> I actually am not really obsessed or extremely patriotic. I don’t agree with several of the things we do…I guess I’m just neutral. I just posted this because I felt like it:)

Some of the negatives: (It’s only fair)

Highest Teenage Pregnancy Rates in Developed Countries-#2

Countries that are the Greatest Water Polluters-#2

Countries with the Highest Obesity Rates-#1

Top 5 Highest Divorce Rates in the World-#3

Countries with the Highest Electrical Consumption per capita-#1

Most Dangerous Cities in the World-#5 (Washington DC)

Countries With the Highest Incidence of breast Cancer- #3

Countries where People Watch the Most TV-#5

Again…this is just some information I found haha:>

cause we’re dumb. i heard somewhere it’s going to cost billions of dollars to convert US from using inches/feet/etc to the metric system

why doesn’t everybody else use the english system? HMM?

"Cost.

Just imagine replacing every highway sign… "
Most highway signs have both, don’t they?

Why do we need to switch to a metric system? Most of the world is under communist/socialist rule. Should we do that too? We haven’t had a major genocide yet, should we have one to be like all the other countries?

^…
I hope you’re just kidding.

hahaha. Parliament. THAT is the question indeed.

Kidding???

If you are asking if those were rhetorical questions, they were. I wasn’t expecting anyone supported communism or genocide. Most people consider those bad.

^lmfaoooo.

It freaks me out when I see Yao Ming only being 2.5 meters instead of 7 feet, 6 inches. 2.5 meters doesn’t sound nearly as intimidating, nor does 180 kg seem as scary as 400 lbs for big NFL linemen. As far as distances, mph is really easy to calculate how many more hours you have to go since most highway speeds are similar to 60 mph (it’s a little more, but balances out). Temperatures feel more relative, also, as Fahrenheit goes from humanly freezing to humanly intolerable (0 to 100) vs. molecular freezing to molecular boiling. American units are simply more applicable in daily life.

Kidding aside, we have had a major genocide.

The world definitely isn’t mostly socialist/communist, assuming the US and countries with similar social programs are not considered socialist.

We (I guess I’m now considered an American) use the metric system simply because we, as Americans, are always backwards. We love to be different.

This is just irrational. If you grew up seeing meters you would think that was normal. Or they may say 250 cm, omg now he’s gigantic!

100 kph, also very easy to work with.

IME, interstates tend to go at either 75 mph or 5, not 60.

Yeah for height it’s usually in cm; i’m 177 I think.
anyways, i’ve adapted myself to meters and celsius, not anything else though. i actually use celsius a lot ha
