why duke?

what do you guys think of this question? I want to go into medicine, but I can't think of anything specific that attracts me to duke, I just like it based on what I've heard from it.

any thoughts?

I like the fact that it's one of the best schools in the country academically AND athletically. That was very important to me.

Of course, there were a myriad of other reasons why I decided to apply, but that was what got me interested originally.

But yeah - here's another thread on the exact same subject that even has the same title: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=11158 It's stickied at the top of this forum.

that is the same reason why I went for emory... I'm going for med but didnt like Duke as much as I liked emory.. I mean who cares about the top 15 difference on USNEWS
after all, its all about how much you like the place and so on... I fell in love with emory cos of its size and building. Duke? - that it is top 5? .. Marginal benefit < Marginal cost

lol ok, and why are you talking about how much you love emory on a why duke? forum...also, i doubt emory is the same academically and it is DEFINITELY not one of the best schools athletically lol (not a D1 school, no football team, etc.), but whatever, I'm glad you have found a school that fits you well and one at which you will have a better chance at admission, which is also good.

dude if nothing specific attracts you to duke, don't apply. sorry to be blunt, but so many times people look at the rank and just apply, then try to think of reasons later. apply to where something specific DOES attract you...

I agree, it kills someone elses chances of getting in who actually likes the school for REAL reasons. someone who actually wants to go there will get rejected and some ivy wanna be will reject it preventing the student who wants duke over anything else
