@morningside95 - Our daughter is assigned to first floor of James. She has been emailing with her roommate who is an international student from China. So exciting! She is moving in on the 13th as she is doing the Grinnell Science Project per-orientation week. I know it is a bit much, but we are going to drive her on the 13th and attend the parent events for the Grinnell Science Project, and then come back again on the 19th for regular orientation activities. Our plan is to bring out the bare necessities the first week (bedding, towels, toiletries, lamp, fan) and then see what she wants based on the room layout, etc… Would love to meet up as well - keep me posted!
How exciting for your daughter, @ChicagoMom62! I think I read all International students are arriving early, as well. After attending school in the same district for his entire life, our son is especially excited to meet students from other countries. Several of his close friends, here in MN, have parents born in another country, so he’s been exposed to some interesting cultural traditions through them.
Sounds like you have a good plan re: dorm needs. Our son is pretty low key about getting the dorm ready, and I keep asking him to communicate with his roommate, so we can plan what to bring, to share - fridge, rug, laundry supplies, etc.
Yes, I am on Listserve, @porcupine98. Finally signed up about 2 weeks ago, after getting back to the CC threads. Took a break from CC as everything ramped up for graduation, summer plans, etc. We will just leave early Friday AM for move-in time, as we are almost exactly 4 hours away. So far, all the parents I’ve communicated with are living on South Campus. Let me know if you here about anyone on North Campus.
Hope you are all having a fantastic summer. It’s been a bit hot, like everywhere, but beautiful up here.
Looking forward to meeting up sometime during move in weekend! We’ll be leaving Sat night. Here is the schedule:

Are you planning on having dinner on-campus, on Friday night? Maybe we could all meet up sometime after move-in but before dinner, so the kids can meet too. Any suggestions are welcome.
Hey, Just wanted to make sure you all considered signing up for the Grinnell Parents List Serve that @ThinMints recommended this spring:

They just posted a change in the alcohol policy on campus. If you sign up, you will probably be in the loop, via email. I did not receive a separate email on this change.
