Why is college tuition so high for private institutions?

Why even use schmuck in the first place? It’s really immature to talk like that.

Welcome to the internet. If something offends you, you are free to leave.

I think she was being comical anyway.

Just for the record…I’m going to a private school for only about $4000 more/year than a state school would cost me…and it’s worth that because my program is better here, and job placement is 100% 6 months after graduation.

Sometimes cost can be deceiving.

They guarantee you 100% that you will have a job after 6 months? Do you have that in writing?

I call everyone a schmuck. I’m from NY; we use these yiddish-derived words like schmuck and schpiel a lot. It’s no more immature that saying “y’all” if you’re from Texas. I’m actually trying to contribute to the discussion. You’re just repeatedly cutting and pasting everyone’s post and trying to nitpick because you’re really bored at 2am, idk.

Thanks, NonAntiAnarchist. :)

yes, yes they are…

Yea - but not every person graduates high school (though its small comparatively now) and like red said not everyone graduates. But 25% is still a significant amount.

Private Universities usually have high sticker prices, but offer generous FA packages - like stated before. I go to BU and I chose it over my state school because I felt the environment and amount of resources were far above what you could get at a state school. The education is pretty much the same - I can attest to that because I take summer courses at my state school. My parents supported my cause (yes - the school was obviously more expensive than my state school - by a good amount too) because they constantly feared for the budget cuts being made to state schools.

" Every schmuck has a BA from State U…"

“So you’re saying that people are schmucks who go to state schools?”

I sure hope you guys take Intro to Logic at some point. Just because all schmucks have a degree from a state school, it doesn’t necessarily follow that all people with degrees from state schools are schmucks.

Why would you go to MIT to get a BA?

You’d probably be better off getting one from a liberal arts college.

Smaller LACs often provide better personalized services and often do a better job in getting you out in four years. State schools are often impersonal, with first-year weeders (for science and engineering) where you’re left to sink or swim. Elite schools are redistributionist - they charge most full-fare so that they can give some money to those that don’t have as much. State schools do this to some extent too - especially taking money from out-of-state students to give to in-state students as financial aid.

State Schools are subject to state budget pressures. Private school budgets are subject to the stupidity of endowment managers, especially at elite schools.

U-Michigan is more expensive than the private university near me.

Of course they don’t guarantee it…but that has been the case for many years for my program. It is written: Enjoy a 100 percent job placement rate and get started on a rewarding career.

^Sounds like an ad for ITT Tech

^ Well, it is a college of nursing. A really good one actually.

It could be West Point too.

“And yes, only 25% of Americans have Bachelor’s degrees, but the point that’s being made is that in our generation, the majority are getting them”

lol. I feel bad for you. But it’s okay… doesn’t mean you’re not intelligent or anything. The fact of the matter is: Getting a bachelors degree from a top school is better than getting it from a mediocre school. That’s it.

That’s the point I obviously made in my MIT vs State U example.

But that’s ok, it doesn’t mean you’re ■■■■■■■■ or anything for not picking up on it.

What jobs does this inlcude? Does this include part time and full time positions or just full time? What is the average pay for the 100 percent rate?

It is? Do you have any stats to prove that?

I’m laughing because I paid $30k for 4 years at a state university and my cousin paid $160k to go to a “top school”. Guess what? I already secured a $30k a job after graudation. Guess what my cousin got offered? $25k. So yes, paying $110k more for a bachedlor’s degree is definately better.

Do you even realize what you’re arguing? It’s pretty ridiculous…

Do you? Some peopel think paying $160k for a bachelor’s is better than paying $30k at the state school. I beg to differ.
