^^ Clearly you made the wrong choice going to Berkeley since you made so many posts stating how frustrated you were with the school and how you wanted to transfer to a private school. I’m guessing you then got rejected from everywhere so now you’re tyring to convince yourself that you didn’t make a mistake in choosing Berkeley.

ive become so sick of 33hours that if i saw him right now, id beat the f*** out him. just sayin i guess i kinda feel bad for him that hes trapped at berkeley though…

Hey I like Duke because it is in the prestigious “Redneck League” other people called it “Magnolia League”. Frankly it is more prestigious than the “Ivy League.” Schools in the Redneck League are as follows:

1-Duke
2-Vanderbilt
3-Rice
4-Emory
5-U of Virginia
6-UNC
7-Tulane
8-U of T Austin

^Don’t kid yourself. All those schools (maybe except for Rice…maybe) doesn’t come close to Duke’s awesomeness.

Duke is in a league of its own. Its comparable to Ivy Leagues like UPenn and Columbia and Brown.
Its not Harvard and Yale level yet, but its still a young university. Duke has no other way but travel up the food chain.

I think Duke is it’s own worst enemy. When touring colleges last spring, the visitor info session at the Ivy’s focused on the high powered research or long history of notable alums. The Duke powerpoint session was mainly about how students live in tents waiting for basketball tickets - supposedly this is a big thing at Duke.

First off, I’m sure that the powerpoint presentation you mention was not fully about tenting in K-ville. Duke has just as large a research program as any of the Ivies and their list of famous alumni is only shorter due to the relative youth of the university. In addition, Duke provides, by far, greater “college experiences” (such as tenting for tickets at Cameron). I hardly find it a negative thing if they choose to make this known during presentations as, in my opinion, it is one of the many things that make Duke a unique college.

I can prove Anonymous_Poster’s statement that “Duke has just as large a research program as any of the Ivies” to be false with at least two counterexamples: Harvard and Yale.

P.S. Your sarcasm is clearly inappropriate and misguided (because I AM right).

Are you kidding me? Shanghai jio Tong University is so messed up in its rankings…Someone explain how UCSD exceeds UPenn in rankings…how the hell does UCSF exceed Johns Hopkins?!
And HOW IS BROWN RANKED SOOOO much lower than UC DAVIS?!?!?!?

This ranking is completely flawed. The day I see Yale ranked 11 is the day 33hours dies in Duke’s medical center…

Nah, my joking is right on target because you need to relax a little.

More generally, it’s surprising now much faith people put in ranking lists as though their ordering was handed down from the Heavens, instead of assembled by people with an interest in selling news magazines. It’s much better to have a solid understanding of the history and organization of universities. So, on the one hand, don’t mistake me for some sort of Duke cheerleader: you’re right about the gap between Duke and, say, Harvard, and I’d hope even the most dyed-in-the-wool Blue Devil would concede this. On the other hand, it’s really not worth getting too exercised about.

Keep kidding yourself and drinking the Koolaid. As a new admit, I see why you want to think this. There is no way that Duke is comparable to those ivies in prestige. Don’t get me wrong, it is a prestigious school, but not on a Columbia level. Those schools are much more selective and have greater prestige overseas.

Also, everyone who says that Duke suffers from being a “southern” school has gotten it wrong. It actually benefits bc if Duke was located in the Northeast, it would be a small fish in a BIG POND.
