Why is economics considered a useless degree?

Pls is sociology a useless course?

I was offered sociology in university of abuja…but ma parent’s said is not marketable…somebody help me pls…is sociology a useless course? If yes…why…if no…why…

Do you know about brands and the power of branding in our education system? Wharton Business School looks good on paper.

I wanted to study economics - and still do, although not officially, just for myself, but I’m also fulfilling my passion by majoring in CS. I don’t think the degree is useless, but it really depends on what you’d like to do in the future. One thing I really liked was microeconomics (collusions, utility curves, consumer behavior …) and how it relates to the entertainment or food industry, for example. Walt Disney and McDonald’s had a nice agreement before Disney Land was opened. If you can take what you learned to the next level, such as diving into marketing, business management, etc. then I don’t think your degree would be useless. In some way, I’d probably suggest getting an MBA instead, and take a few electives from the econ department as a substitute for your interests.

Anyways, if you are really interested in economics, you might consider studying somewhere in Europe for 6 semesters (for free). There are many good schools in Europe, particularly in England and in Germany which are well-respected. Some have 100% acceptance rates (in Germany) due to a lack of degrees given out in that subject. But that’s just a suggestion.

Nobody will pick on you for having a degree from a well-respected country such as Germany, which we have thanked for back in the early 1900s for giving us the Kindergarten.
