I’m a freshman, and I noticed so many people here are so far behind academically – I don’t mean to put it in a mean way, but I’m surprised at the pool of students at Davis after hearing on CC that it was a GREAT school. In my calculus C class, the class average for the first midterm was a 47%… and the test wasn’t even so hard (I got a 95), and it wasn’t like there was a good portion of the class that did good… only 3 people got A’s (in a class of 237). I’m a bit surprised that a school with good reputation has such low quality of students… I’m even more disappointed that I was WAITLISTED here initially. Why the heck was I waitlisted when I’m getting in the top 5 of classes? I’m a bit angry that I was waitlisted at a school where the average student is doing so poorly in classes.
I wouldn’t be calling anyone dumb at UC Davis since you posted this on the UC San Diego Thread.
Pat yourself on the back. Not everyone can be as awesome as you.
That would make sense though because I am attending UC Davis, and I would also be considered dumb.
First of all, as pointed out above, I’d be careful about calling everyone else “dumb.”
Think of it this way–since you are clearly so academically superior to your peers, then getting straight A’s should be easy for you. That means you should have ample time to do everything outside of class that will give you a step up from your competition both at your school and from other schools. Get work experience, do research, tutor, get an internship, take graduate level courses, volunteer, etc, all of which will help set you apart from your peers. Consider yourself lucky to have had a strong academic background that has set you up for success in college and has given you the time and ability to focus on things outside of your coursework.
As for why you were waitlisted at Davis, perhaps, it has something to do with your attitude. You might want to carefully consider how you come off to other people in writing (and in person, if your attitude on these forums is any indication of how you are in person). A lot of getting competitive internships, jobs, and spots in colleges and graduate schools has to do with how you present and market yourself to people who do not know you. Just something to think about.
@baktrax Oh no my essays left no trace of my true persona. I submitted my essay to a professional college essay writing company to get corrected. I would assume they made sure it appealed to universities. I think colleges just have really skewed up admissions policies.
