Why is Patrick Henry College so underrated?

Patrick Heny College was founded in 2000(only 15 years ago) It has lived up to its nickname: “God’s Harvard” PHC has sent students to Harvard and Yale Law for several years in a row now(They have also sent studets to Columbia Law, Georgetown Law, University of Chicago Law, Stanford Law, and UVA Law) PHC’slaw school matriculation is equl totat of Ivy League schools. After law school, PHC graduateshave been hired by top law firms(especially in DC) Just go to google and search “Patrick Henry College, Associate LLP” A list of PHC grads at top law firms will come up.(it’s also ineresting that alot of those graduates are working at law firms in DC) Top conservative Political Science professors come to speak t PHC (They recently had Hadley Arkus, a top Poli/Sci profesor at Amherst come and speak at te college, for thier Faith and Rason lectures) The school has beaten Harvard, and Oxford in Debate and Moot Court. At this point PHC is ELITE in the fields of law and politics, and anyone who fail to realize that is either an idiot or in denial(NOTE that I have absolutely no affiliation with he college. I am currently ahigh school junior, and am very interested in attending PHC) I hate it whe the media treats PHCas if it’s just another Christian school (like Liberty or Bob Jones) I don’t see Liberty or Bo Jones sending students to Harvard Law. Another thing that shocks me is the number of times the “New Republic” has attacked PHC on allegations of sexual assult.(they say that PHC discarded rape at thier school) This is not only untrue, but absolutely disgusting. First of all, the alleged sexual assult happened off-campus(even the New Republic admits this) How is PHC supposed to keep track of students who arn’t on the campus? The “New Republic” attacked PHC again, when the President resigned. They make it seem as if he resigned because of issues with the college. He, and the administration made it clear, that he was resigning because of disagreement over how to grow the college. I understand that the “New Republic” is no friend to consrvatives, and that’s fine.(I’m all for free speach) However, there is no need to attack PHC over and over again. Again, I have no affiliation with the college. I am asking this because it is strange that PHC has not recieved much “good” national attention.

I hope you feel better having vented but really, is it a surprise that with the pedigree you detailed PHC wouldn’t have a big target on its back from that liberal rag ?

Its a hit piece, get used to it.

Best wishes if you do attend, I met one of their grads and he was top shelf, brilliant.

I am sure there are some great students there - it was originally marketed to homeschoolers, and I would assume a lot of homeschoolers head there still. And homeschoolers are often the cream of the cream. I just wonder why PHC doesn’t pursue a better, more broad-based accreditation, i.e., the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, for example, which accredits all sorts of colleges, from Christian to secular. For the cost of the tuition and fees, I would want better accreditation. As a homeschooler, it also goes against my inclination to spend over $30K on any school. I did homeschool all of my kids, and we were even members of the Home School Legal Defense Fund for a while, but were never devotees of the founders of HSLDA (which included the found of PHC) and I guess I am always put off by organizations that are too guru-centered (one reason I stopped renewing our HSLDA membership - didn’t need it anyway, as I had a great relationship with my local public school district’s home education office.)

But, sure, any college or university which includes Jesus Christ in its mission statement is going to get criticized.

Just a note: there were two students from Bob Jones at Harvard Law School when I was there.

Patrick Henry is tiny, admits almost all applicants (most of whom choose to attend elsewhere), and has only a 62% six-year graduation rate. It does get some smart students, but its appeal is very limited.

Never heard of it.

P.S.: There is no such thing as “God’s Harvard,” which is presumptuous on so many levels. If you are a true follower of Jesus Christ, then per the Scriptures, and if you listen to the Holy Spirit, then God will direct you to the college that satisfies His Will, not yours, and you might end up at this college or an even less obscure one, or the reverse.
