Why is the gmat math section so simplistic / realistic vs quantitative?

<p>Basically, I see a LOT of questions that look like college algebra and geometry level word problems. I don't remember any of that stuff anymore! The only math I ever use now is differentiations, integrations, summations, etc</p>

<p>I mean, I guess I should be able to apply my general knowledge of mathematical concepts to solve these problems, but it's taking me muuuuch longer than it does to solve a repeating series problem simply because I can't figure out what simple comparison I'm supposed to be making. </p>
