the precollege summer program for high schoolers in the CAS is SO EXPENSIVE! just about $11,000 for 6 weeks! for TWO college credited courses.. i mean who has that kind of money to spend for this... really.

that's the thing.....they kind of want ur money. BUT i STILL LOVE the QUAKERS!! :P, u got to respect their hustle in this economy man...everyone is trying to get some dinero (money)

does anyone know if this is the only way to get involved with the college over the summer? i want to do a summer program at Penn and experience life there and such but six weeks is a bit long and 11,000 is WAY TO MUCH.. maybe if those were both cut in half it will be alright at least..

also, are there any good opportunities in wharton? although i'd rather not participate in some grueling program with no free time and constant work throughout the day.. i would need some breaks : p

Thanks!
if anyone has done a program at Penn during the summer please tell me about it!

ive also been looking on the site and found a few things but it got really confusing the way its set up.

i spent about 8 weeks doing research there as my summer job...i guess that's getting involved with the school?
i also have a friend who taught tennis at the penn tennis camp for little kids.

if this accounts for anything....i had a tour of penn, and the dean of undergraduate admissions told my mom and I that it shows ALOT of commitment and it actually looks really good if you do their summer program.....the reason y i mention this is because Harvard Summer School is the COMPLETE opposite; participating in HSSP bears ABSOLUTELY NOOOO weight in an admissions decision (straight from my regional-director's mouth). But i can say that if u do a summer program at penn, or cornell, or even columbia (even though I heard its kind of like a summer CAMP in that its not strenuous at all) it DOES look really good. again...this is just what I've been told and what I've heard but if you don't have the money to spend on this type of program...i dont think it'll be worth it (particularly in THIS economy). best of luck! :P

shakespeare's gotta git paid son

On a serious note i actually did their biomed program the summer before last. i think it helped me get in ED especially since most of my friends who applied got in ED and it seems to have helped. i know other school dont put much weight on these programs, but i think its worth the investment.

Does it only look good to the school you do it at? Like If I did it at Stanford, would it not look good to penn? (I live in Cali)

yeah pretty much they dont care IMO^^

nyorker...LBW is whartons summer program; 4 weeks for 54 hundred

Search the LBW thread in summer programs and you should be able to find it

there's also sibt, which is engineering - wharton

sibt is for college students though.. im in high school.

also, i was looking at the M&TSI program and really like it. how hard is it to get accepted into the program? is it as difficult as applying to the actual university? what do they look at when they are deciding to admit you there? anyone do it? thanks

CrystalPineapple, how exactly were you able to research at Penn? Was it a summer program, or did you just happen to contact a professor?

ohh yeah i was thinking of m&tsi

same idea
